Counsellor Profile

Hello and welcome. I have been working as a counsellor and psychotherapist for ten years. I work part time for the NHS and part time in private practice. I also work for Employee Assistance Schemes, and take referrals from GPs. I welcome enquiries, so do contact me if you have any questions, and I will try to be of help.

If you are interested in making a first appointment, you can contact me by telephone or email. My consulting room is in Shooters Hill, SE18, which is near to Blackheath, Plumstead, Woolwich and Eltham. I am also near to Welling and Bexleyneath in Kent. The room is comfortable and I hope that it will be a safe space to talk in confidence about any issue.

I am fully qualified as a psychotherapist and registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy. I am also a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I trained at Goldsmiths College, University of London, and at Regent's College in London. I am also a qualified supervisor.

Before training as a therapist I worked in several different jobs, which added to my experience of life! I have had experience of working in hospitals and schools, and spent some time working in television, and then freelance as a writer and actor. I have travelled widely and my interests include music, dancing and yoga.

THE WAY I WORK

I work with all issues, including emotional, physical and sexual abuse, relationship difficulties, depression and anxiety. I have had training in working transculturally.

Another area I work in is stress management and I often use creative therapies such as art and music, dreams, visualisation and hypnotherapy. I have facilitated workshops in stress management, dreams and creative writing.

My thinking as a counsellor and psychotherapist is particularly influenced by the work of Carl Jung, D. W. Winnicott and Irvin Yalom. However I am always interested in new theories and enjoy reading professional journals and attending courses to extend my knowledge. I use a combination of psychodynamic, cognitive, humanistic and integrative theories, and adapt them according to the needs of each individual I work with.

CONTACTING ME TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT

If you are interested in counselling or psychotherapy, the first step would be to arrange an initial appointment. I do charge for this appointment, which gives you the opportunity to talk in confidence and to decide whether you feel you would like to work with me.

Sessions of therapy usually take place at the same time each week. Usually I work with individuals on a once-weekly basis, but twice weekly sessions can be helpful for some people. I try to be flexible in this and am open to discussion.
