About me

I am an experienced Counsellor and Psychotherapist working with individuals, couples, families and young people for a wide range of areas including:

  • relationships and parenting
  • loss and grief (specialist experience in working with bereavement)
  • stress management
  • anger
  • anxiety
  • and depression.

You can benefit from the fact that I have gained long experience since 1993 and I have undertaken many additional trainings and qualifications, such as:-

  • couple counselling
  • cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
  • post-traumatic stress disorder
  • supervision
  • and victims of crime

I have special experience in helping bereaved people as I worked for 25 years with Winchester Bereavement Support and dealt with all types of bereavement. I have also worked with victims of crime as I worked with Victim Support for 14 years.

Couples Counselling
The relationship with our partner is for most of us hugely significant to our everyday life and wellbeing. When our most important relationship is not working we are deeply affected. I am especially interested in helping couples with their difficulties as a therapist trained in this complex area of work.

Relationship Issues
The problem comes when we feel that things are going wrong. People say:

"I want it to be better between us but I don’t know what to do."

Counselling is confidential and can help to throw light on things in a non-judgemental way. Often this will enable each person to see things in a new way. Couples can identify what they need to do to resolve the issues. Sometimes partners can be counselled together and sometimes it is better for them to seek help separately. Individuals are often helped most by being heard, so change becomes possible.

Anxiety and Depression
Anxiety and depression are issues affecting many clients I work with, and can be triggered by home or work problems. Clients who undertake a series of therapy sessions with me give much positive feedback.

I see therapy as a joint enterprise in which I will use my skills and an approach tailored to your needs to support and enable you to overcome your difficulties and feel more fulfilled and happier in your life.

Training, qualifications & experience

MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy 2005
Advanced Diploma in Counselling 1993
BACP member since 1996
UKCP Registered Psychotherapist 2005
Couple Counselling - Metanoia Institute 2008
CBT - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy 2006/2007

I am a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist.

My voluntary work with an organisation caring for bereaved clients led me into professional counselling training.

Continuing my voluntary work with bereaved clients and also victims of crime, I simultaneously built up a small private practice. With growing experience I wanted to expand my skills so that I could offer more to my clients. Therefore I engaged in training to become a psychotherapist in order to help with deeper rooted problems which require greater expertise and longer therapy.

1997-2001 - Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy training at the Metanoia Institute.

2003 - Postgraduate Diploma in TA Studies (Middlesex University).

2005 - MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy and registration with UKCP.

I also work as a counsellor with Employee Assistance Programmes.
I use CBT where appropriate.
I have also trained in pastoral counselling.
