Counsellor ProfileIf you are looking for a counsellor in this area please take a few moments to read my profile and visit my website.
We all have times in our lives when we feel distressed, confused or overwhelmed and it can be a relief to talk to someone outside the situation: often if feels like shedding a load. Counselling can help us to move forward in life in a way that is hard to do alone. You may be unsure of what the problem is but feel the need to talk to someone, or your may have a specific problem you would like to address. You do not need to know exactly what the problem is, only that there are things you would like to change.
Counselling can help with relationship problems, stress, lack of confidence, depression, low self-esteem, anxiety, loss and many other issues. Sometimes people feel that life lacks purpose or they need a new sense of direction.
A counsellor listens carefully and reflects back to you about what you say. Sometimes, enabling you to make links betweeen past events and present difficulties can help you can start to look at yourself from a new perspective. The aim is to help you look at changes you may wish to make, or to come to terms with things that can't be changed. By exploring your difficulties you can start to understand yourself better and this self awareness can bring insights, solutions and change. Learning to draw on your own resources and strengths - that you may not have been aware that you had - helps you to approach life in a more fulfilling way.
Counselling can help us to become aware of unhelpful patterns of behaviour, which is the first step towards change. Couples are enabled to discuss their problems on neutral ground in the supportive environment of the counselling setting. This can help them to address their difficulties, communicate better and to change their unhelpful patterns of behaviour.
Working with a properly qualified counsellor is essential (BACP accreditation is a good yardstick) and to feel comfortable with the counsellor would enable you to really explore your issues.
I am continually inspired by the rewarding changes that counselling enables people to make.

Other areas of counselling I deal withI am particularly interested in the body/mind links and after consultation and agreement with my client can offer work that is a physiological process for identifying and releasing emotional distress and unresolved traumas.
FeesIf you would like to phone or email me we can arrange an initial assessment session. This would give us the opportunity to see what would be most helpful to you. After our first meeting we can decide on further sessions if appropriate, or you might want to go away and think about this experience before deciding to begin counselling.
Having decided on a course of counselling then sessions are arranged at weekly intervals if possible and usually last for 50 minutes.
Everything that takes place in counselling is treated with respect and discretion. An agreement on confidentiality and the duration and cost is made at the outset.
Extra InformationI work in Donhead St Mary near Shaftesbury and in a clinic in central Salisbury with easy parking at both locations.
I am very happy to chat with you on the phone to discuss some of these things and to help you get an idea about whether you would like to come for an initial assessment session.
