I got into therapy because in working one to one with dyslexic clients I discovered I needed more skills to address emotional issues connected with dyslexia and ADD. I wanted a model of therapy which gave me the skills to help my clients deal with anxiety, stress, depression and relationships issues.
Human Givens is practical and focuses on solutions and helping someone move on. It explains what is happening in the brain when a life isn't working and what needs to change to regain balance.
We all have emotional needs and when these needs are not met, for whatever reason, problems arise. The good news is we are all born with the resources to get our needs met and it's a question of using these resources or learning to use them to create a better life.
For the last nine years I have worked with clients who have a broad spectrum of issues including anxiety, depression, phobias, traumas, anger issues, and OCD.
I also work with children and teenagers and have a special interest in creating and using stories.
I have experience of using clay as part of the therapeutic
process. For visual and kinaesthetic individuals it can be a useful medium.
A typical session would last an hour but the first session is usually one and a half hours since I need to gather information.
I normally work in a quiet room in my home but in some circumstances I am willing to make home visits.
Therapy is more successful if clients fully participate in the process and one way to do this is for us to agree tasks to do between sessions.
