Heather Westbrook - Counsellor MBACP (Accred. Reg.)
Hello and thank you for reading this brief introduction into how I work and how I may help you. Please do contact me if you would like any more information.
I have been practising as a counsellor since 1999, I have worked within many different settings including the NHS and as a Staff Counsellor within the Police Force. More recently I have been employed as a senior counsellor for a leading Employee Assistance Provider. I believe my life, work and training have enabled me insight and understanding to help with the following areas of concern;
Bereavement and Loss including divorce, separation and redundancy
Depression, low mood and Anxiety
Stress precipitated through work, life challenges or trauma
Relational problems - Personal and work related
Abuse - Sexual, Domestic and Bullying
Self-development - work or life related
What do I offer?
I work with individuals, young people and couples. I am an experienced couple therapist with additional post graduate training in this area.
Counselling - working with an identified problem over a few sessions or several weeks (after our shared discussion in the first session)
Psychotherapy - open ended therapy to allow the deeper exploration of life concerns.
My Philosophy on Counselling and Psychotherapy
My hope is that through the forming of a trusting, genuine therapeutic relationship you will be enabled to review and reframe negative thoughts, long held beliefs can be reviewed and reassessed and that you may come to see yourself and your world differently. A therapeutic relationship is a unique relationship which offers a safe, accepting environment enabling you to explore the things that hurt and feel difficult. With courage and commitment and in the companionship of a caring professional, my hope for you is that you will find fresh insight, self-awareness and empowerment to face the most difficult of decisions.
In line with BACP requirements my work is insured and supported in confidence by an external supervisor. I am also committed to my ongoing professional development in order to maintain the integrity of my work.
