Chris Henden Counsellor and Psychotherapist, UKCP Registered
01582 454252 / 07502 374951
I have worked with a wide range of clients with many different issues on a short and long-term basis. I don't particularly identify with any one approach since who I am as a therapist is the result of many years of training, personal development and experience. (Integrative, holistic and relational would give some idea). This has been (and still is) central to my life since the early 80s when I first began my own therapeutic journey. This journey has included among many other things, a considerable time in personal therapy and group therapy. I believe it is essential to have this experience in order to train and develop as a counsellor or psychotherapist and understand what it's like to spend time "in the other chair" and to experience one's own personal development in that way.
I have had a private counselling and psychotherapy practice in Luton since 1991.
I am happy to spend as much time as you need on the phone to help you decide if it feels right to work with me, and also to discuss fees. Call me (or text/email) in confidence and without commitment, any time. If you get my voicemail, leave a message and I will call you back as soon as possible. It is important to me that you find the right person to help you. If we don’t feel I offer what you need, I can usually make suggestions to help you in the right direction.
If we agree to meet, we will usually organise an introductory session. This is to give us the opportunity to discuss any further questions or concerns, to get a feel of things, and to arrange further sessions if we are going to continue.
I would not want you to agree to anything you were not comfortable with, and often we may decide to have a number of sessions to see how things go. It is important that we feel right about working together since our relationship will be fundamental to the success of the work we do.
I see clients in a purpose-designed room which is designed to be a relaxing and informal environment.(See photos below)
I usually offer sessions in the evenings and late afternoon Monday – Friday but other times may be possible. Sessions are typically 1 hour at a regular time every week but I am happy if necessary to be flexible, and to work with you to accommodate such things as work and family arrangements where I can. I also make special arrangements, for example, with people who have to travel a long distance or can benefit from a longer session. All this would be discussed at the Introductory Session or as we go.
