Gill Jones MA, MBACP Senior Accredited, Registered Counsellor
I offer Online Counselling. This means I work by email, text chat or webcam. Just like face to face counselling, online counselling is effective when it is carried out by a counsellor whom the client trusts. I believe that for any counselling to be successful, the relationship between the counsellor and client has to be right. This means that I respect and value you and I will not judge you as a person. My aim is to view your world through your eyes and from that viewpoint, help you to explore, understand and find alternative ways to respond to the people and experiences that are causing you a problem. When our relationship is right, you will feel the counselling space is a safe one; where you can be open and honest, knowing your words will be heard, accepted and not judged.
I believe online counselling is a good alternative for people who have difficulty keeping regular appointments, or who find a face to face setting makes them anxious. Some people find it easier to write about themselves to someone they can't see. Past clients have reported they have found it easier to write things down that they couldn't say out loud to a person in the room. Emails and text chat can be read more than once and many clients have told me they find re-reading an email or the transcript of a text chat helps them to understand what we are working on together.
Confidentiality is extremely important to me and I check with every client before we begin any counselling that we can both work in a confidential space that is private.
I will respond to emails on an agreed day each week. Live sessions are booked ahead by email and can usually take place within a few days. I work 10.00 - 6.00 Tuesdays and Wednesdays and 10.00 - 8.00 on Thursdays. If you would like to work with me, you choose whether to work by email, text chat or webcam (or a mixture).
I work with people aged 18 years and over and have a special interest in helping people with anxiety, panic attack, generalised anxiety disorder, depression and relationship problems. I also work with low self esteem, loss, stress and work-related stress. If you would like to find out more about me and the way I work, please visit my website www.gjcounselling.co.uk. If you would like to try some online counselling, please send me an email. I'm happy to discuss it with you before you decide whether it's right for you.
Training, qualifications & experience
My professional qualifications include MA, MBACP Snr. Accredited Counsellor and I am a UK Registered Counsellor.
I have undertaken specialist training in online counselling with On-Line Training for Counsellors Ltd (www.onlinetrainingforcounsellors.co.uk) where I have recently retired as a Director.
I have been practising as a counsellor since 1991 and as an online counsellor since 2001. Although my original training was as a psychodynamic counsellor, I now work as an integrative counsellor using a wider range of theoretical approaches so I may tailor the way I work, to suit you. These days I may work cognitively (understanding how your thoughts affect the way you deal with life), psychodynamically (understanding how past experiences affect how you live your present life) or narratively (exploring, understanding and challenging the problem thoughts, feelings and behaviours that have caused you to look for help). I may also offer therapeutic writing tasks to help you gain further insight and understanding. Whatever approach I use, my work is underpinned by my core belief that our relationship has to be right for the work of change to be accomplished. I offer you a non-judgemental, affirming space where you will feel safe enough to be open and honest.
