About me

I can offer a safe, confidential and reassuring space to talk about how you are feeling and help you manage anxiety and depression. A lack of self-confidence, and poor self esteem can cause stress, anxiety and sadness as well as causing relationship problems. My approach is to help you to find constructive pathways to address and manage these problems. There is no agenda, and no pressure and completely non-judgemental.

Over the course of your sessions I will help you manage your emotions and to become aware of unconscious thoughts that might be driving unhelpful and distressing feelings, creating anxiety and low mood. You will be able to make links between seemingly unrelated thoughts, feelings and experiences which will help in finding a way though this difficult period.

I work with generalised anxiety disorder, anxiety, depression, trauma, bereavement, panic disorder, eating disorders and obsessive behaviour and relationship problems. Also self esteem, low self confidence,  self harm, unexplained physical symptoms (psychosomatic), or just  feeling sad.

I also work with couples helping with the emotions associated with relationship break up, betrayal, separation & divorce.

As a BACP Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist I work within the ethical boundaries of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) which includes client confidentiality, regular formal supervision and a commitment to ongoing training and development. I recognise how difficult it is to make the decision to seek counselling, and how to choose a counsellor - I will respect your decision and recognise the trust you will place in me to help you at such a difficult time.

I am registered to offer counselling to clients insured with AXA/PPP, AVIVA, VITALITY HEALTH, WPA and HEALIX, subject to their individual policy restrictions.

I practice from consulting rooms in  Royston, Hertfordshire, and Central London:

Grosvenor Street, London W1K 3JN - Convenient to Bond Street station (Elizabeth Line) and Oxford Circus.

City of London Therapy Centre, 45, Central Street, London EC1 which is 10 minutes from Old Street and Barbican Stations.

Royston - there is adjacent parking to the Counselling Centre, also it is located a short walk from Royston mainline station which is served by trains from Kings Cross/St Pancras and Cambridge.

I also offer counselling using Zoom/Skype/FaceTime/WhatsApp/Microsoft Teams and telephone sessions, this is more flexible than face to face sessions. Some of my clients combine both which suits their lifestyle and personal commitments.

Training, qualifications & experience

Accredited Member (Reg No: 187031) of The British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists - MBACP (Accred)

My principle training is in Psychodynamic therapy which focusses on a  holistic perspective of the client and embraces the work of all analytic therapies. I have additional training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis (TA) which I will use in conjunction with my main approach.

I am continually developing my skills by participating in specialist continued professional development (CPD) This enables me to offer my clients a range of skills and acknowledges that each client is different, thus enabling me to use the approach best suited to your needs.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I can offer a safe place to explore the emotions around life changing events, and to help you to plot a course for your future. The idea of asking for counselling might raise anxiety - here are some key points:

  • During counselling I will not tell you what you should do
  • Counselling/therapy is a non-judgemental process
  • My sessions offer you the free space so that you can be heard
  • Counselling allows you to focus on troubling issues

A few words from one of my recent clients:

"Personally, I am much more relaxed and my relationship with the family is stronger (actually, all the relationships within the family seem stronger!). I have learned from others that I am a very likeable person and that I don't need to over-exercise my social skills for people to find me. I have a lot of authentic assets for who I already am. I also now see that I am far more mature and emotionally in-tune than my age suggests due to my professional and personal life experiences.

It was your hard work with me to find my path that I am truly grateful for. I have gained much more self-confidence that I quietly posses with my work colleagues."

Further information

The experience I have from working with my clients helps inform my therapeutic approach. I offer both short and long term counselling and work with both individuals and couples.

The main focus of our sessions will be to work towards understanding the origin of the issues you are experiencing and will provide the opportunity to take a fresh look at them.

I recognise, that individual issues often need a more tailored approach, and therefore in addition to my training in Psychodynamic counselling, I have additional training in Cognitive Behavioural and Person Centred Therapy, and Transactional Analysis, I will utilise an integrated approach when appropriate.

Our initial meeting:

I will ask you to tell me more about the history of the issues that you are bringing, and understand how these are affecting you in everyday life. Together we can plan our approach to meet the desired outcomes.

I will also explain to you how counselling works and in particular what you can expect.

From our first contact you will be in charge and I will work with you to bring about the changes you are seeking.

All of our work will be confidential, and I work within the professional guidelines of the BACP.

Frequency of our sessions:

we will normally meet once a week at the same time.

Contract terms:

I will explain the terms of the contract, my charges and answer any questions you might have. Payments can be by cash or bank transfer - all payments must be made in advance or at the time of the session.
