About me

A journey we can walk together through the rain and sometimes storms into the sunshine

Hello and welcome to my page I am qualified in both a psychotherapeutic counsellor and a hypnotherapist. I am a positive person with an optimistic and enthusiastic approach to life but who also has a firm understanding of the problems it can bring and also the solutions that can be found.

My approach to counselling is an integrative one using a range of therapies, not working to any fixed model or approach. This gives us a lot of flexibility working together and tailoring your therapy specifically for you because one size does not fit all.

I have found, from my own experience, that there are times in our lives when we need someone to talk to, to share with and to bounce ideas off or just at times to sit quietly with.  We cannot always do this with family as they are too close or too distant as the case may be. It is good to get different perspectives on things by talking to someone else who is not part of your everyday life, being heard can be immensely healing, helping you see the clearer picture. Talking with friends & family though a great support, can  cloud the view.

Having worked in the caring profession for many years this has prepared me for a second career as a professional counsellor and hypnotherapist. understanding the stress and problems every day and family life can bring. Life, in general and post pandemic, can cause great anxiety and sometimes we are not sure what causes these feelings which creates more anxiety. I chose to become a psychotherapeutic counsellor because of my life experience. I am married and have brought up a family and know from personal experience that therapy can be a positive life-changing experience. Sometimes life throws a curve ball at us and something happens often suddenly which is difficult to deal with so we find it so difficult to keep things together  so may occasionally drop the ball.

Whether the issue is in the past or in the present I can help you to find the solution or a way to come to terms with what has happened or happening. Seeing the clearer picture exploring with you issues that are maybe holding you back, making you feel anxiety, getting to the heart of the problem. Looking at how you can make those positive changes needed for a brighter, happier present & future. To be able to achieve this a safe, confidential warm environment is essential, I can offer you that place where you will not be judged or told what to do. The answers are very often within us we just need some help to find them and start the healing process

The  relationship between you the client and me the counsellor is a very important part of therapy which is why I offer a free initial 30 minute session so we can meet and discuss your main issue and goals, answering any questions you may have especially if you have not been to counselling before the prospect can seem somewhat daunting. At this initial session I will help you make an informed decision about what the next step is as it is important you find the right counsellor for you. The cost of petrol and diesel is so high at the moment so I offer the free 30 minute session either by WhatsApp video ,google meet or Zoom.

I have experience with a whole range of life problems, for example, anxiety which can take several forms from general anxiety through to panic attacks, depression, addiction. I also have experience with relationship issues and couples counselling. Helping couples find a resolution to their issues in a safe neutral environment

I also have a wealth of experience with addiction especially alcohol and helping friends and relatives of people who have addiction issues. Addiction is an illness which impacts not only on the person but on family and friends and work colleagues like a ripple a stone creates when thrown in a pond. I can help you to make positive changes that will stay with you on your journey through life in a safe, warm emphatic environment.

I work with clients between the ages of 17 -80+  I also  work online via Zoom ,Google meet and WhatsApp video  as sometimes it can be  expensive and time consuming travelling to therapy sessions

Therapy can be open-ended or time-limited .it is your choice how often you come and for how long. Therapy is a working partnership
I look forward to hearing from you and wish you the very best

TESTIMONIALS

Individual Counselling

CK Berkshire

It was really good to be able to discuss my worries with someone. Jan provided a calm and relaxed atmosphere, asking just the right questions to make me think about how best to deal with my anxieties.  I think we had narrowed down one of the main solutions within the first session, and it was good to feel back in control and have a plan of how to deal with a stressful event.  There was no pressure to have more sessions that necessary and Jan was happy to fit in with my hectic schedule.  I will definitely be back in touch again if I start to feel that I need external support again.

Thanks, Jan.

Couples Counselling

HL & AL- Berkshire

I loved working with Jan. She made us feel comfortable and offered commonsense solutions to problems quickly without prolonging discussions. This meant we resolved many issues in our 6 sessions without it feeling rushed at all. What we have learnt we will use throughout our marriage and we are sure we are stronger as a result.
