Caroline Mitchell, MBACP (Accred), Dip. Couns.
Experienced, BACP-accredited counsellor based in Horwich, offering confidential counselling at a pace that's right for you. Issues I regularly work with include anxiety/stress, depression, anger, relationship problems, trauma (including PTSD), bereavement, lack of confidence and the long-term effects of different kinds of abuse.
My approach to therapy is integrative, meaning that my style of counselling varies depending on each individual client and their particular issues. I have found that a combination of the Person-Centred approach (working with you as an individual) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT - looking at how negative thought patterns control your feelings and behaviours) produces the best results for my clients. I also use EMDR (Eye Movement, Desensitization and Reprocessing) or hypnotherapy, if appropriate. I'm particularly interested in working with post-tramatic stress, trauma, anger and anxiety, and how these issues can take over your life if they are not addressed.
I regularly work with the after-effects of various kinds of trauma (e.g. flashbacks and nightmares from life-threatening events and sexual abuse/rape). The Rewind Technique allows an individual to gain control of these effects without the need to talk to a counsellor in detail about their trauma, and is very effective.
Well done for taking this first difficult step, I understand what a daunting experience this can be. Whether this is your first time in counselling or you have previously seen a counsellor and new issues have arisen, I look forward to working with you.
