Profile
I take a creative approach in offering counselling, psychotherapy and play therapy to adults, couples, families, young people and children. I am also a trainer and supervisor.
I also use creative approaches for anger management, helping the client to find safe and effective ways to express their anger appropriately in order to manage their violence.
I first became a counsellor after I was suddenly made redundant. When I had recovered from the trauma I wanted to help other people who were traumatised by redundancy or other issues. For around 20 years I have worked full time as a counsellor and therapist. I am skilled at providing help for panic, anxiety, depression, stress at work, grief and trauma.
With many years' experience in working in medical settings, I can offer support for people coming to terms with a long-term or life-threatening illness. I also provide therapy for psychiatrists, medical doctors and nurses.
Since the mid-1990s I have provided therapy for many people who are affected emotionally by a disability, whether the disability is new or has affected them for a long time.
Having lived and worked in Eastern Europe for several years I have considerable understanding of, and experience in working with, cultural issues.
My main specialism is creativity. I take a creative approach to therapy, using play therapy with children and sandtray, art, music and movement as well as talking therapy with adults. I am a member of Counselling & Psychotherapy Outdoors and provide therapy outdoors and therapeutic adventure for adults, young people and (in groups) children. Therapy outdoors enables active people to benefit from counselling or therapy who might find sitting in a room for an hour too restricting.
I am experienced in working with young people diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Asperger's and other Autistic Spectrum Disorders, and Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties. Many of the latter can benefit from therapeutic adventure in groups.
I understand and work well with attachment and abandonment issues, including people who have been adopted or fostered. I have worked with people diagnosed with Reactive Attachment Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder and other issues related to attachment.
I have a current enhanced CRB check for working with children and vulnerable adults.
