About me

If you are reading this, it is probable that you or someone you care about is suffering emotional distress or unhappiness.  If so you will be looking for a therapist who can offer empathetic understanding but who also has the skill and knowledge to help overcome the difficulties being faced.  I believe that I can offer a warm, caring and confidential environment in which to work together on the issues that have arisen.

I am a qualified and experienced counsellor and will work with you to clarify and understand the issues that concern you and the goals you wish to achieve. We will work together to help you to:

                      - deal with issues in your life
                      - make changes in your life
                      - be more in control of your life
                      - develop increased confidence
                      - change negative thinking patterns
                      - improve relationships

I work with the areas of counselling listed below but the concerns clients bring may not fit easily into these categories and each client is seen as an unique person. So you may have specific issues such as anxiety, panic attacks, phobias or depression or other issues you wish to overcome such as low self-esteem or problems in the workplace.  You may be suffering from the psychological effects of an accident, bereavement or other trauma. People often have several different things going on or maybe just a feeling that things are not right in their life.

As well as my qualifications listed below, I am a member of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies and the UK Psychological Trauma Society.

My practice covers Cardiff and the Valleys, Caerphilly, Newport, Monmouthshire and Torfaen.  I normally see clients at my counselling room a few miles from Cardiff, Newport and Caerphilly and close to the A468 (please see the map below) but I may also meet with you at Cathedral Road in Cardiff.

Please telephone or e-mail me if you would like to discuss in more detail how we might work together.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) from University of Wales Newport and I am a registered/accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

I have my own private practice as part of Insight CBT. As part of that practice I provide staff counselling for an academic institution in Cardiff.

I also work with clients who contact me directly or are referred by Employee Assistance Providers, lawyers, health insurance companies and accident management and rehabilitation companies. I work with adults on a short to medium term basis.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
