Profile

Seeking counselling and therapy is a courageous act. You will be safe, respected and cared for in a confidential and warm environment. If you are anxious about beginning counselling I can meet with you face to face free of charge for half an hour so you can decide if this will be the right place for you to begin counselling or therapy. If you are suffering emotional and physical pain especially in the areas of loss, grief and trauma it is important to know that you will be held safely. 

I offer counselling and therapy for individuals and couples and group therapy. I also offer clinical and personal supervision for counsellors therapists and social workers.
I have a special interest in psychological trauma and how this is held in the body as 'unfinished business'. If the effects of trauma are not dealt with our body produces many symptoms and unexplained pain that may not be diagnosed from a medical view. I work with chronic illness and many mental health issues. I have worked within mental health teams since 1993 and have a deep appreciation of the skillful adapting that a person may use to cope with childhood abuse and live to be a successful survivor. I work with couples who present with destructive relationship dynamics and we work to untangle these dynamics so both are free to express intimacy. I work also with couples who may have chosen to separate and assist in undoing and releasing the bonds that bind them together.

Training, Qualifications & Experience

I trained as a group facilitator for adult education in the 1980's and this led to a counselling qualification. I began training as a psychotherapist and graduated with distinction in 1991 as a gestalt psychotherapist. I also trained in REBT (rational emotive behaviour therapy)and became familiar with many other humanistic models through workshop trainings. I trained in systemic family therapy and was part of an ongoing support and research group for four years as the development of 'narrative therapy' came out of this systemic work. This forms the basis of my couple work. I worked with children who were in social welfare care for a five year period and used a full playroom to do this work. When I came to the UK in 2000 I became employed with Priory Healthcare as a trauma specialist and later as a generic psychotherapist within an adult acute service. I began private practice in 2005 and have continued to work part time in mental health teams both in East Sussex and in London. I began a part time study with the Gestalt Centre in London to do a clinical and accademic MA in gestalt therapy and have completed this with my dissertation being the integration of gestalt and EMDR (eye movement desensitation and reprogramming). I trained in EMDR in 2003 and have used this technique within my practice ever since.

Fees

I charge £60 per hour for self paying clients. 
For unemployed and low income clients I will negotiate a concession rate. For trainee counsellors and therapists I will negotiate a concession rate for therapy and /or supervision

Further Information

For clients with whom I have an established therapeutic relationship, I do skpye sessions. This is particularly useful for those who find travel difficult.
