Jo Mitchell (Park Psychotherapy) BSc (Hons), Dipl. Psych, UKCP Reg.
Many of us experience periods in our life where we can benefit from a confidential space in which to be heard and witnessed in a non-judgmental and compassionate way. Sometimes a long-standing issue becomes too much to deal with anymore, such as an anxiety which has worsened to the point where it limits the enjoyment of life. Sometimes a one-off traumatic incident, such as redundancy or divorce, shakes the foundations of life to the point where it becomes difficult to continue as before.
I aim to offer a safe space in which you can bring any issues and be heard in a supportive and non-judgmental way, in complete confidentiality. I foster a collaborative approach where we work together in setting the pace and format of the sessions.
My approach is Integrative. I use a variety of approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Psychodynamic, Gestalt, Jungian and Dream work. My approach is also Transpersonal, which acknowledges the body's natural healing ability and the spiritual dimension. It includes working with the body using visualisation and grounding techniques and is a way of viewing life crises and difficulties as pointing the way towards what we need to heal in our lives, showing us how to work towards our potential.
I also use some of the new approaches which have been developed as a result of the relatively recent advances in brain science, in particular the finding that the human brain can grow and change throughout our lifetime. This means we have the potential to change old, ingrained patterns which do not serve us, into more adaptive and helpful ones. These approaches include Mindfulness and Lifespan Integration.
I see clients on a short-term or long-term basis, usually face to face on a weekly basis, although I can be flexible to suit your requirements. I also welcome the opportunity to work with trainee counsellors and psychotherapists. I work with adult clients from a wide variety of different backgrounds, including age, nationality, ethnicity, sexuality and religion.
My practice is based close to Clarence Park in St Albans, Hertfordshire and is readily accessible from North and North-West London and the surrounding areas of Hertfordshire, including Berkhamsted, Harpenden, Hatfield, Hemel Hempstead, Radlett, Watford, Welwyn Garden City and Wheathampstead. It is 15-20 minute walk from St Albans City train station. Street parking is readily available.
Please visit my website (see link above) for more information or do get in touch if you have any questions or would like to arrange an initial session. In an initial session we can explore whether it feels right to work together and I am happy to talk through different ways of working to give you more of an understanding of my approaches.
