I am a qualified psychotherapist and counsellor in Brighton and Hove. I aim to see everyone that contacts me through to the right counsellor for their needs; this may be me, or it may be one of the many other specialists I'm connected with.
I would invite you to visit my psychotherapy and counselling website to find out more about the way I work.
My Specialisms as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist
I provide counselling and psychotherapy for adults and young people seeking help in the Brighton and Hove area, as well as having an office in Horsham which I work out of on Fridays.
I consider bereavement, anxiety, identity issues, depression, indecision and diagnoses of OCDto be the issues with which I work most effectively, though I am happy to work with you on other issues, if you feel that I am right for you.
I have spent much of my career working with disability, a subject I lecture on across the country. Consequently I am well suited to client’s for whom disability is an issue. Please note that there are stairs to my practice – if you need a service with wheelchair access then I would recommend you contact the Fed: Centre for Independent Living.
Many of my clients are young people in late adolescence or in their early twenties. The difficulties that such people face has become an issue I have grown confident in working; something I am reinforcing by my current studies in child development. Please note that for the time being the youngest age I can work with is 16.
Finally, I have focused much of my research around the topic of gaming and internet use. If gaming or social networking is an important part of your life, either positively or negatively, then the way I work may be appropriate for you. I currently have an emphasis on gaming addiction - if this is something that you or a loved one struggles with then give me a call.
Couples Counselling in Brighton and Hove
Together with Nicky Hitchcock, we offer couple counselling in the Brighton and Hove area. Our work uses the duo counselling model, where two counsellors work with you and your partner simultaneously.
Duo counselling enables the counsellors to be more observant of the relationship and less likely to be drawn into an alliance with one or the other side of a couple. By switching between observer and counsellor we can better understand and work with your relationship.
My work as a therapist stemmed from over 10 years of studying philosophy. A wild card choice in Freud led to my first completing a degree in Philosophy, then a masters in Existential Psychotherapy. This process has taken me through a range of professional environments including Childline, MIND, Mental Health First Aid England, Sussex University, lecturing on the Government sponsored Improved Access to Psychological Therapies scheme and my own private practice.
My previous career led me through retail management, to management training and then, bizarrely, on to be a video game designer. These days I focus on counselling and delivering lectures on mental healt. The rest of the time I am researching and improving my understanding of the topics that typically challenge those that I work with. Currently I am looking into the phenomenon of gaming addiction as well as considering how the ways in which we play can tell us a great deal about the strategies we use to cope with life and other people.
Please call me on 07714 324542 or e-mail me at email@example.com to discuss counselling.
