About me

I am a fully accredited counsellor with The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP accred) and registered independent counsellor with United Kingdom Register of counsellors.

I have been working with people since the 80s but started offering counselling from 1999.

I have worked both within the NHS, as a counsellor , and I run a private practise, in newton mearns. I have now retired from the NHS after over 20years of offering therapy. I also have taught within the post graduate diploma in counselling at strathclyde university. I offer counselling for both individuals and couples and clinical supervision for students and counsellors. I aim, in counselling, to provide my client with conditions which offer a safe, supportive and challenging environment where you can explore the issues that are 'troubling' you in order to help you through the emotional turmoil that you may be experiencing.

Training, qualifications & experience

In terms of experience, I have a wide range of experience working with many different people , (since 1999) with many different issues within the context of the NHS (as a senior counsellor) and in private practice (as a counsellor and clinical supervisor). I have accrued a massive amount of counselling hours, experience, learning ( and humility), counselling people just struggling to get through the 'hardness' of life, at points, in their own life to people that are struggling with psychological distress( or both!).

I am a fully accredited counselling with the BACP (MBACP accred) and also have a certificate in clinical supervision.

I have a post graduate diploma in counselling; BA(hons) degree in psychology and sociology; a Mlitt in women's studies; and a Diploma in youth and community. All these different qualifications have led me to work with people, in many different ways, since 1988, although now my main focus is providing counselling and supervision. Furthermore, in terms of continuous professional development, I have also further training in such focuses as abuse, cognitive behavioural therapy, trauma work, couples therapy, mindfulness work, depression , anxiety and bereavement
and eating disorders

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

My practice is in Newton means and so is on the south side of Glasgow. I offer both day time and evening appointments and am happy to talk with people on the phone when deciding if I am the right person for them to come and see. Parking is not a problem however there are two steps up to get in the front door so it may not be easy for wheelchair access.

Finally I hope if you do take the 'deep breath' and decide to phone that you will find me a warm, accepting and welcoming person who is ready to take the leap alongside you.
