- Are you struggling with grief, depression, exhaustion, anger, panic or problems at work or home?
- Are you looking for a safe place to gain some perspective on your life?
- Or maybe you are trying to understand why you sometimes behave in ways you do not like or understand?
I have a broad range of experience working with individual adults.
I work face to face in short and long term therapy.
Iam a Person Centred counsellor with a belief that everyone is a unique individual.
I work in a pluralistic (integrative) way; drawing on various psychological approaches depending on your individual need.
My work with trauma (over-whelming experience) is influenced by Sensorimotor Psychotherapy which developed as a way of working with distress that is 'remembered' non-verbally in the body, somatic momeory
'trauma survivors have symptoms instead of memories' (Harvey 1990).
Individuals adapt to trauma in different ways so I work with your existing strengths to find ways for you to notice your individual body-based memory of trauma, often without the need to revisit all the details of the event or events, which can be re-traumatizing.
Informed by contemporary research into trauma and neuroscience, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is able to address both the devastating physical and psychological effects of trauma, that can result in a bewildering array of symptoms such as; fear, panic, aggression, fatigue, anxiety, depression, hyper-vigilance, intrusive images and feelings, numbing, grief, loss, low self esteem and shame - which can leave you feeling out of control, confused and vulnerable.
