About me

I have been working in the field of mental health for over 15 years and have experience of working sensitively with many of the issues that can cause suffering, confusion and despair; such as bereavement and loss, anxiety, depression, abuse, low self image, anger issues, periods of transition and change, or unhelpful patterns of behaviour.

Counselling provides support through the painful or complicated periods of life, giving you an opportunity to sort through, and better understand the difficulties you face. It is an approach that is often used to address a specific difficulty, and this can develop into a wish to think more deeply about your way of being, and this moves into the area of psychotherapy.

Psychotherapy is an opportunity to engage in a therapeutic relationship that can bring about meaningful and embedded transformation. You may feel you want to meet more frequently to allow yourself more time to reflect on your inner world, and to have support as you think about your history and current circumstance.

Analysis is a way of exploring all aspects of your life in greater depth. You would tend to meet at a greater frequency, often 4 or 5 times a week, with the aim of discovering the parts of yourself that have been hidden, or neglected, or have not yet come into being.

All approaches are a wonderful way of exploring who you are, and your unique way of being. By focussing on your habitual ways of reacting and giving attention to your feeling responses you will grow in self awareness and gain greater control over your choices and behaviours. Together we will look at the patterns of behaviour that may be holding you back in life, and find ways to reach for your higher potential. You may begin to make informed changes in your life, and also find a way of coming to terms with the things that you cannot change.

Depending on what brings you to therapy at this time, I offer open-ended therapy, or brief, solution focused counselling, or analysis. This is guided by your needs and desires, to explore whatever you choose to bring, for help with specific problems, general discontentment or in times of crisis.

I believe that each of us has the ability to find the answers we need to feel fulfilled, and to live our lives in a meaningful way - my work is to help you to hear your own inner voice which will guide you to people and situations that are for your best.

My first training was Integrative, and my professional development led me to train more extensively from a Jungian orientation. I will draw upon a range of therapeutic approaches to find a way of working that best suits your needs and personality.
I provide an environment that is accepting, empathic, and open, a safe space for you to use as you choose.

It is important that you find a therapist that you feel comfortable with, and our initial consultation gives us an opportunity to meet in person, and for you to outline what brings you to therapy. After this meeting if we both feel that we are well suited we will agree on our working contract - this will be to meet weekly or more frequently, at a regular, agreed time. How long we work together will depend on what you want from therapy.

If you would like to talk about how psychotherapy could work for you, please contact me on 07972 153020.

I look forward to hearing from you, and hope that I am able to help.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

My work as a private practitioner has been predominantly with adults, from a range of backgrounds, at various stages in their lives, facing hugely different issues and difficulties - my approach with all is one of respectful enquiry and empathic understanding.

I have several years experience working with children and young adults, of all ages, as a play therapist and school's counsellor.

I am a qualified supervisor, and I work privately with qualified counsellors and counsellors in training. I also work for a local charitable service providing supervision to their counsellors, and in schools, supervising the pastoral care team and teaching staff.

I work within the BACP ethical framework, which means I am bound to confidentiality and that my work is fully insured and supervised.
