I am an accredited and experienced Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist as well as an EMDR Therapist. Both are practical treatments that help people deal with a range of physical and psychological problems including anxiety, relationship difficulties, bereavement, depression and trauma.
I have a particular expertise in working with couples having communication difficulties and those seeking psychosexual therapy.
I believe CBT and EMDR offer effective models for prompting personal change.
How CBT and EMDR Help
CBT helps clarify specific problems and explore the role of thoughts, attitudes, beliefs, expectations and behaviour in the maintenance of physical and emotional problems. Changing the way we think about a situation or problem can change the way we feel. CBT aims to provide a tool-kit of proven strategies designed to help individuals and couples manage their problems more effectively.
EMDR offers an alternative therapy where current problems may be a consequence of earlier trauma or distressing memories.
How I work
I work with clients face to face in a comfortable town centre office, as well as online, through email and by telephone. I also offer supervision to trainees and qualified psychotherapists.
Training, qualifications & experience
Key roles in the past ten years have included therapy and supervision, coaching, counselling in a GP practice and a private clinic. I also have substantial experience in post graduate teaching.
I believe that enthusiasm and optimism can create a mix of energy and motivation - I work with people to make this a reality.
