About me

I offer face-to-face counselling, as well as online therapy via FaceTime or Skype.

We have all been through such unprecedented times, and even now, life is far from “normal”, leaving many people feeling very anxious and unsettled. If you are experiencing anxiety or panic attacks, have relationship difficulties,, or are going through an especially difficult period in your life: bereavement, separation, redundancy. You may have suffered a loss, faced a life crisis, or have low self esteem. You may want to explore past experiences, consider new options, change the patterns in your life and really reach your true potential. This is the time when you need to speak to someone other than friends or family, someone who will never judge you. I can offer you a warm, accepting and safe place in which to explore any of these issues.

I am a fully qualified and BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist with 23 years wide-ranging experience, which has proved to be effective and successful, in short-term and long-term therapy. I have a private practice in Farnham Common, Buckinghamshire, five minutes from the M40 and within easy reach of Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Middlesex and London. There is ample and secure parking in a private road.

I can provide:
* A safe, valuing, calm environment where you will never be judged.
* Help to explore problems and to identify changes you may wish to make.
* Respect for the individual - for me, every client is unique.
* Confidentiality - of paramount importance in the counselling and therapeutic relationship.
* New ideas and perspectives, which may help you to change the way you think or act, change life patterns or behaviours. Ways to combat panic attacks and anxiety: breathing techniques and relaxation and visualisation exercises.

When working with Couples in conflict, I have found that having a safe and neutral setting enables couples to communicate more freely with each other and reach a better understanding, which in turn may help to resolve their difficulties.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold an Advanced Diploma in Counselling, achieved BACP Accreditation in 2005, Senior Accreditation in 2011, am on the BACP Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, and hold a Certificate in Post-Compulsory Training & Education.

Prior to embarking on a Counselling career, I worked in London, New York and Chicago in Public Relations, so have always been very much a "people-person". I am happily married with grown-up sons, and have a good understanding of teenagers and teenage problems, having worked in schools in a voluntary capacity.

I spent 3 years working on an Eating Disorders Helpline and maintain a great interest in this subject, having facilitated workshops for counsellors and schools.

I taught Counselling for seven years in a Further Education College, at all three levels: Concepts, Skills and Diploma, and have facilitated workshops for Counselling Agencies and student counsellors.

Continuing Personal and Professional Development features strongly in my worklife, and I pursue a wide variety of eclectic interests: always striving to broaden my horizons.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
