Profile
I am a fully qualified Person-Centred Counsellor with a BA (hons) Degree. I have been working within the voluntary sector for a number of years.
I offer short and long term counselling as well as low cost counselling as I believe that affordability is a major issue in today economic climate. I work in the Scunthorpe, Brigg, Barton-upon-Humber and North Lincolnshire area providing a counselling and therapeutic service on a one to one basis.
I decided to follow a career into counselling through experiencing a lack in support for myself and my children when my husband died from cancer in 2002. Having experienced the emotions, feelings and devastation bereavement can take you through drove me to obtain the correct qualifications to be in a position to help others in such a situation. Sometimes bereavement can not only be isolating but also a very lonely experience when others around you do not have the understanding of where you are coming from and the vast range of emotions you can go through. Having the correct support and an understanding of the 'Grieving' process can sometimes help you to see that it is ok to feel this way and you are 'normal' if there is such a thing.
Having experienced counselling myself I truly believe in the benefits it can offer. Many issues can affect us all with todays busy lives and having a safe, confidential environment to share and explore issues can help resolve issues that affect us.
Many times friends and family are too close and an external, qualified, independent person can help explore your thoughts and feelings in a non-judgemental and non-directive manner.
I am also a qualified Cognitive Behaviour Therapist (CBT) which is the therapy mainly used within the NHS.
