I qualified as a counsellor in 2008 and I currently work in a variety of settings. I enjoy working with individuals, couples, older adults, children and young people. I offer skilled, confidential counselling in safe, comfortable environments in areas of County Durham (Chester le Street & Newton Aycliffe), Newcastle upon Tyne and South Tyneside.
I work from from both a client centred perspective and have recently qualified with Level 5 Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I do, however, like to draw on approaches which are best suited to the individual. My aim is to support the client whilst working towards greater personal understanding. I believe the relationship developed is key to successful exploration and change. I also enjoy using creative means to explore issues with clients.
I have experience working with:
- generalised anxiety
- bereavement and loss
- relationship issues
- workplace related issues
- family issues
- low confidence/self-esteem
- image issues
- carer support
- working with elderly clients experiencing loneliness and life change
- abuse (emotional, sexual and physical)
- pregnancy related issues (miscarriage, loss late in pregnancy)
- post natal depression
- living with terminal illness
- emotional eating issues
as well as others highlighted below.
i am committed to my own personal and professional development, and have recently completed a Level 5 Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy as well as gaining my Certificate in Supervision from York St John University.
I also work with young people age 13+ who have issues with low self-esteem, struggle to feel they 'fit in' to their surroundings and/or who are having difficulty at home - I have found that offering a safe environment to express fears and anxieties in a non-judgemental relationship can lead to greater understanding of where they are on their own journey.
I am currently one of the Directors at The Road Centre Ltd in Chester le Street. The Road Centre has been a well established counselling service for over 20 years providing individual, couple, children & young people therapy.
Counselling is provided in safe, comfortable environments in five locations - Chester le Street, Newton Aycliffe, Murton, Newcastle upon Tyne and South Tyneside. Appointments are available early evening as well as during the day. Skype counselling is also available on request.
