John Hewitt MBACP (accred.) Registered Counsellor
01273 208919 / 07882 919069
I am a qualified BACP accredited Counsellor on the National Register, with over 20 years experience, both in the NHS and in private practice. I offer sessions for individuals and couples in person. I am also able to offer sessions on Skype.
I came to Counselling from Youth Work and Project Work with Young Offenders. My first full time Counselling post was at University College Hospital London, where I was resident NHS Counsellor for the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit between 1993 and 2005. This post enabled me to work with patients and families across a wide range of ages and cultures. I also had placements at Marylebone Centre for Counselling & Healing London and Youthreach in Greenwich.
My approach to Counselling is Person-Centred, which means I am helping you to find space through your own words to discover what might be behind your current difficulties. I use this approach as a component of Psychosynthesis. This therapy uses the Transpersonal method, which can include sound and art therapy and visualisation techniques where appropriate. I also have a special interest in supporting performers and musicians.
I have worked as a support Counsellor on several College courses which require a therapy component and offer a reduced rate to students.
I have worked with a wide range of issues and aim to provide a safe, confidential space to meet and work in.
