About me

I am a BACP Accredited therapist offering long-term and short-term counselling to individuals and couples.  Sessions last for one hour and take place in a private and comfortable room in Lyddington, or online.

My therapeutic approach is Integrative, a fusion of different schools of psychotherapy. This means that I have training and experience in different ways of working so I can tailor my approach to best suit the individual or couple.

How can counselling help?
Professional counselling offers you the opportunity to work through your concerns in a safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment.

My aim is to help you explore and make sense of your problems. You may wish to talk about difficulties you are currently experiencing or longstanding issues that still have an impact on your life. You may be going through a period of crisis, a life change, or perhaps you are hoping to to change self-defeating patterns of thinking and behaviour. Whatever problem you are experiencing, counselling enables you to work through painful feelings, grow in self-understanding and confidence, explore options and develop coping strategies.

Some examples of problems people bring to counselling are:
Anxiety and depression
Low self-esteem
Stress at work
Unemployment
Emotional, physical and sexual abuse
Family problems
Relationship problems
Divorce or separation
Bereavement and loss

Couple Counselling
It is normal for relationships to suffer under the pressure and strains of life. Sometimes, however, we find ourselves in despair, unable to resolve problems, and separation can seem like the only answer. Betrayal of trust, intense arguments, depression or bereavement, for example, all take their toll.

Couple counselling provides you with a chance to reflect on all aspects of your relationship and helps you make positive changes. Considering how past relationships, in childhood and adult life may be affecting the present, can be part of the process. In addition, by addressing unhelpful patterns of relating, communication will improve and conflict more constructively managed.

There are, of course, times when couples decide that the relationship cannot be rebuilt and separation is the only option. If this is the case then counselling can help the couple to split with more understanding and less hostility.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified and experienced practitioner, accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (B.A.C.P). I have been counselling since 2001, firstly with RELATE and since 2006 in private practice in Lyddington, Rutland.  I also worked for IAPT (Let's Talk Wellbeing - NHS) for several years.  Alongside private therapy, I also offer counselling to young people in schools, and clinical supervision to health professionals.

Post-Graduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling 2008
RELATE Certificate in Couple counselling 2006

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
