Barbara Lowden, UKCP, RegMBACP
I am a qualified, registered counsellor and psychotherapist and have over 20 years' experience in helping people with issues such as all kinds of anxiety, stress, depression, lack of confidence, bereavement, hoarding, abortion, menopause and other aging issues.
I offer a confidential space for you to explore your problems, where you will be listened to in an impartial, non-judgemental way, and together we can work on finding ways that will be best for you to manage problems and improve your emotional well-being.
My philosophy is that problems can provide us with a challenge to learn more about ourselves and that suffering is telling us that something is wrong in the way we are living our lives, and should therefore be investigated, rather than avoided.
It is natural to be anxious if counselling is unfamiliar to you, and the initial session is a chance for us to see whether we could work together. I will ask you for some information about your current problems and the background to them, and then we can decide together whether to continue. We can contract to an initial set of 8-10 sessions, or you may prefer to commit from the start to a more open-ended timeframe. All sessions last 50 minutes, and the fees are as outlined below.
I also offer Supervision for counsellors and psychotherapists.

Supervision & training
My goal is the well-being and safety of clients as well as therapists, and I aim to work in the best interests of the client, whilst supporting the counsellor/psychotherapist in their work, and helping them to develop their own identity as a practitioner. As an integrative practitioner, I make use of theories from humanistic, transpersonal, psychodynamic, transactional analysis, existential and cognitive approaches. I am interested in transference/counter-transference issues, unconscious and parallel processes, the use of metaphor and symbolism, as well as creative techniques.View supervision profile
