About me

As a trained counsellor I offer you a warm, compassionate approach within a safe, supportive relationship.  I provide individual counselling for adults of any age either short term, focussing on specific issues that may be distressing you, or offering open-ended longer term work to help you untangle more complicated difficulties you may be experiencing.

With kindness and respect we will work together to re-build your confidence and self-belief, to increase your own understanding of yourself and help you find the tools within to make the changes you want.

As an Integrative Counsellor I take a flexible approach and work with you as the unique individual you are.  Some of the reasons people have come to see me include:

Stress & anxiety                                                          Low mood/depression

Relationship problems                                                Loss/bereavement

Problems at work                                                        Problems with anger

Domestic violence                                                        Rape/sexual abuse

Major life changes                                                        Health issues

Complex trauma

Often there are a combination of factors which lead to overwhelm.

Gently, together, we can unravel your difficulties and find a way through; alleviating your distress and increasing your sense of wellbeing and hope for the future with a renewed sense of choice in life.

Together we would agree on what seems particularly important for you and decide what might be a useful number of sessions. Our aim would be to explore your situation, get to understand what is happening for you and why and then support you in creating the changes you need.

Counselling is not an easy option; it can be emotionally demanding and challenging, as we are faced with ourselves and our attitudes and limitations.    It is my hope that all this is achieved within a warm, accepting environment which respects you and totally accepts who you are.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

I am a certified practitioner of the Emotional Freedom Technique.  This is a gentle way of releasing ourselves from stuck emotions or patterns of behaviour/thought.  By skilful focussing on the issues concerned and then guided tapping using one's own fingertips, tapping on specific parts of the head and upper body, it is possible to find release and freedom from fears and phobias and deep emotional wounds that limit us.

I can provide this as a stand alone therapy or incorporated into counselling sessions.

If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
