About me

The search for a counsellor is the first positive step towards making changes in your life yet I understand it can also be a daunting process. My aim is to make this process as comfortable for you as possible.

There may be a number of reasons that prompted you towards this search:

  • Perhaps serious events have occurred in your life that you feel require professional support?
  • Maybe stress, anxiety and depression are making your life difficult and you want to develop critical skills that will enable you to lead a more fulfilling life?
  • Are you struggling as a parent with neurodivergent children such as ADHD, SPD or autism? Perhaps you are also questioning your own neurodivergence?
  • Or maybe you don’t know why; you feel stuck and dissatisfied with aspects of your life so would like to reassess to find new direction?

You may feel stuck with your unhappy thoughts and feelings, however, daunting as it may be, by searching the internet for possible answers you have already taken the first step towards improving your life. Your courage opens up the possibility of discovering the different options available to you and reflects your ability to change the way your life is headed. If you feel that you want to make changes in your life but are unsure of where to begin, it may help you to speak to a person who is impartial and separate from your friends or family for support.

Who am I?

My name is Wei and I hold a Clinical Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy; I am a UKCP accredited Integrative Psychotherapist. This means that I integrate theory and approaches from various models to tailor my approach to suit your individual needs. I respect that each person experiences events differently depending on the influences from their past experiences, past relationships, cultural/socio-political background and the context in which we live. I therefore strive to understand you through your own unique lens before considering the approach that will be most beneficial.

How I can help

I view the therapeutic process as an opportunity to open up the possibility of leading a more meaningful and fulfilling life. My role is to:

  • Support you with any emotional distress and any challenges you are facing whilst also helping you to identify different ways of leading a more satisfying lifestyle specific to your needs.
  • Encourage your personal growth by helping you move forward in a way that respects and supports your ability to make the choices that are right for you.
  • Develop clarity by identifying and exploring ways of overcoming the challenges you are facing by helping you locate your inner resources that can support the growth of your confidence and self-esteem.
  • Achieve the changes you want to make in your life that will increase your sense of empowerment so that you can start living the life you want successfully and authentically.

How I work

I work in several ways:

  • Short-term work consists of working with the CBT model whereby you wish to focus on a specific problem to gain more immediate support by identifying strategies for symptom relief and for alleviating distress.
  • Longer term work would involve identifying personal goals and making sense of your present experiences in relation to your past. This will provide you with insight and understanding into the roots of your behaviour to support you in reaching and maintaining your personal goals, whilst also providing you with ongoing support as personal challenges arise in your life.
  • A combination of both, tailored to your current presenting needs and your future hopes and aspirations.

If you think I can help in any way, I invite you to come along for a first session (online or in person) so we have the opportunity to meet each other, for you to experience my way of working, and to talk about what you feel you need from our sessions.

As an integrative psychotherapist, I have been trained to work with a broad range of models and theories (CBT, neurobiology, psychodynamic, existential, humanistic and gestalt psychotherapy).

Experience

My experience ranges from working with clients in short-term therapy to working with severe and enduring mental health problems in longer term therapy. Over a period of more than twelve years, I have gained experience of working in various healthcare establishments that include working with:

  • Forensic clients suffering and recovering from mental health issues in private care
  • Ex-offenders
  • Homeless people
  • Older people
  • Physical and emotional abuse in children's services

I have worked extensively within the forensic population with people suffering from a range of complex mental health issues such as schizophrenia, mood/personality disorders, alcoholism, substance misuse and trauma.

Having experience in engaging hard to reach and vulnerable clients means that my approach places importance upon providing a safe environment in which a trusting relationship can develop at the client's pace.

I have also worked with a wide range of people from various different cultures and backgrounds who have experienced a variety of issues that includes depression, anxiety, trauma, anger management and addiction, as well as those detailed below.
