About me

I work from home in Drayton. The sessions are 1 hour long. My main theoretical foundation is Gestalt with some integrated CBT techniques.

I work with clients (individual and couples/groups/families) to help them explore issues such as anxiety, self esteem, depression, relationship and family issues, stress and bereavement, and many others.

I believe talking to someone in therapy offers everyone the chance to discover so much about themselves. How do they currently experience their life? What aspects do they like and what aspects would they want to change? Self exploration may bring a person awareness of inner resources they have previously not been aware of,  which may support them to make healthy changes. Its also possible to discover how they stop themselves from getting what they need.

The invitation from me is to open up to your potential and live in a more nourishing way.

I began my own personal development in earnest in 1995, because of an overwhelming need to understand my life in relationship to everything around me. I found Gestalt supported my understanding and helped me to know more about myself, so decided to train to be a Gestaltist.

I achieved my BACP accreditation in Mar 2010 and abide by their Code of Ethics.

I keep my own self exploration going by regularly attending workshops which capture my curiosity.

Training, qualifications & experience

Trained in Gestalt at Cambridge GATE (Gestalt Awareness Training Experience) for 5 years, graduated in December 2005. Worked for a voluntary counselling service for 8 years until December 2009. Continuing to work privately from home.

I have integrated some of the techniques of CBT into my work.

In March 2010 I am pleased to say I became an accredited counsellor/psychotherapist  with BACP ( British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapist) and I abide by their Code of Ethics.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Life not going as you might wish? You'd feel happier if there weren't so many problems and issues?

Some you can deal with, some you may feel are impossible to deal with. You may have strong feelings and seem unable to let them go. If only you could understand what is happening then perhaps you could find the resources needed to deal with the problem.

This is where Gestalt therapy can help you.
Gestalt therapy will enhance your life skills by helping you to become aware of how and why you respond to situations/experiences in a particular way.

Increased self-awareness can offer you the chance to discover your inner resources, which in turn can open your eyes to the range of actions and choices available to you. Following this path can bring the harmony you so desire, into your life.

I personally believe we all have within us the ability to heal and live life to our fullest potential. As a Gestalt practitioner I offer you a confidential space to come and explore anything you wish within a supportive therapeutic relationship

A couple of Personal testaments I have received (offered with the person's approval):-
....I just wanted to say how grateful I am to you for steering me through the dark scribble of my past and feelings.... I have emerged into the light of May!

..... I must say I found the whole experience worthwhile. I discovered aspects of myself that were hidden and managed to confront them with Pat's help. I know that this has given me an assuredness and a certain confidence which was missing. It was one of the best phone calls I made!
