Susan Reid MBACP (Accred)
I work integratively with adults and young people, which means that I am able to draw on ideas from several schools of thought and work in the best way to suit you. I try to encourage you to find the words to describe how you are feeling, which I know is difficult, especially if you are feeling anxious.
It is daunting to contact a counsellor for the first time - I will communicate in which ever way is best for you, via text, email or telephone. After your initial contact, I would like to have a short chat, often this is best on the phone. After this conversation if we both feel we would like to work together we will arrange an appointment so that we can have an initial session. During this session I will tell you a little bit about myself and ask you to start to tell me about the reasons you have come to see me, I will take a few details from you and we can discuss how we are going to work together. I usually work with clients weekly, and we can talk about the length of time we think we would like to work together.
I am experienced at working with loss, bereavement, fertility and infertility experiences, depression, anxiety and low self esteem. I also have broad experience of working with people coming to terms with chronic or terminal illness as the patient and as a friend or relative.
Training, qualifications & experience
Susan Reid PgDip MBACP (Accred) MBICA
After qualifying at St George's Hospital London I had a long and varied career as a nurse clinically and in education where I developed an interest in pastoral support which led me to re-train as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist.
Training and Qualifications
I found the pastoral support of students interesting and rewarding and so started with a counselling skills course. I wanted to learn more, and so I continued with further studies at Roehampton University where I qualified as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist.
I have undertaken additional training in CBT and am able to incorporate some elements of CBT into my practice; I have learnt how to work through play and art therapy at the charity Place2Be, and attended a number of study days at the the British Infertility Counselling Associon. I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists.
My work has been with students, professionals and people from all walks of life who have had a life experience they want to talk about. I have an interest in loss - through bereavement and loss of place and culture. I have volunteered in agencies which support adults and young people with their life challenges, depression, anxiety, relationships and study (organisation, goal setting, barriers and blocks). For five terms I worked with infant school children using play and art therapy.
Code of Ethics
I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and adhere to their Code of Ethics.
