I am a Gestalt counsellor experienced in working in personal growth through a range of difficulties and challenging life experiences.
I am interested in the patterns of experience which frame and shape us and in bringing awareness to ways of developing our own choices and values.
It is a simple truth that patterns of experience give patterns of expectation. And naturally enough, those patterns of expectation will in turn feed patterns of experience. Repeating cycles of experience can be useful... or not.
I have worked successfully with issues of confidence, stress, anxiety, with panic and trauma, with abusive damage, eating disorders and blockages of self expression.
I focus my approach with individuals through the learning and discipline of a Gestalt centred training background.
I provide space for talking and unburdening, for exploring and developing supportive awareness.
As a means of clarifying and understanding your experiences I include a creative understanding of embodiment - Gestalt carries within its larger frame of relational therapy, elements that have been made popular with Mindfulness.
So, within our physical being and habitual postures we hold our patterns of experience and expectation. We may, for instance, be habitually weighted down, or held in, or held up, burdened with experience, fearful of our environment or unable to trust that the rug will not be pulled out from beneath us..
Increased awareness and fluency in the sometimes stumbling yet always relevant physical language through which we express ourselves can be a rich addition to our developing well being and personal unfolding.
Equally, to enrich your understanding of yourself, to bring colourful other perspectives, we may explore with creative metaphor and dreamwork. Jung described dreams as the 'royal road to the unconscious'. Truly dreams are a rich path of exploration and integration, a magical and inspiring way of self discovery and healing...
Alongside my therapeutic training I bring perspectives learnt through my career as an artist, in my love of the natural world and, more peripheral perhaps, but still relevant, in my interest in the beauty, aesthetic and zen of sports.
Within these areas of my experience, whichever emphasis our work takes will depend on what works for you.
