About me

Back face to face working.  Welcome, if you have found your way to this site you have already made the biggest step in your own healing & self understanding, approaching therapy can feel like a daunting & confusing prospect. Many have experienced times when life just seems too much or too difficult, do you struggle with feelings of anxiety, fear, sadness and despair, how to cope? I am here to listen to you, to empathize and help resolve the difficulties you are experiencing right now, which have led you to this site; I won't tell you what to do, nor give you advice, instead, help you to find your own pathway to change. Choosing a therapist isn't easy, so why choose me - In my profile below I aim to give you some idea about my ways of working as a Therapist.

I am a fully qualified, registered and experienced Counsellor / Psychotherapist, offering a professional and confidential service, with over 15 years experience working as a professional. I work from an Integrative perspective, meaning that my main theoretical models are Humanistic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Gestalt and Psychoanalytic; enabling me to work with each person individually to match the type of counselling to their particular needs, an integration of both therapies and techniques along with personal life experience. I believe that each person is a unique individual, taking a holistic view on how a person thinks and feels, physically, emotionally and psychologically. I have worked with many different issues life presents with people experiencing both personal and emotional difficulties; enabling the person to become more aware of themselves, taking into account their mind, body and spirit. I feel that clients find this empathic, genuine and understanding approach extremely supportive and beneficial. My approach is integrative, which means I use a variety of models, for example, if you would like to work in a creative way beyond simply talking I can facilitate this - You may want to bring drawings, photographs, dreams, poetry and music to sessions if this is helpful to you, we express ourselves in many different ways.

I seek to provide a safe space for clients to explore their problems or relationships; providing a safe space 'to be heard', without judgement and at your own pace, in a calm, relaxed atmosphere. These sessions are about you, how you would like to use the session and that you are happy for us to work together, counselling is not about giving advice, a counsellor is trained to help you arrive at your own informed decisions and find your own answers. This is a collaborative process in which both client and counsellor work together. I offer individual counselling both short and long term therapy, I recognise that some clients are in need of long-term support and accordingly there is not a time limit on the number of sessions offered. I provide a professional yet warm approach, offering empowerment and choices to approach things in a different way 'Transforming the way you live your life'.

Counselling can be helpful when we are faced with situations and feelings that appear to be too difficult to handle totally on your own, when you want to change unhelpful patterns of behaviour or there may be no apparent specific reason/problem yet suddenly may feel as though life lacks a purpose for them. In other instances people may be struggling with on-going issues relating to low self-esteem, poor health, depression or anxiety where the root cause does not seem clear. Counselling offers the experience of really being listened to during times of stress, together with the gradual gaining of new insight, awareness, choices and new opportunities. Sometimes through life we may come to a point of change, crisis or indecision, certainties may disappear, we may feel lost, afraid, isolated, confused or angry, it may seem that our life is meaningless, with nobody to turn to, occasionally we may feel the need to explore these feelings at a deeper level & with someone outside our normal circle, it is then that counselling can help in recovering a sense of where our path might lie.

I feel it a great privilege facilitating others to make the changes that they wish for themselves and therefore help to create a better quality of life.

'The Client is the Expert' Carl Rogers. 'Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain' anon. 'Vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity and change'. Brene Brown. Rising strong/Daring Greatly.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Trauma and Complicated Grief. "When we deny the story it defines us. When we own the story we can write a brave new ending". Brene Brown. Rising Strong.

Specialist in working with recovery from Narcissistic abuse. – ‘I believe you’. Recovery from narcissistic injury – the term used to describe the reaction a narcissist has to a victim who dares to challenge or criticise. From a Professional and Personal perspective.

Narcissists are skilled liars and manipulators, they use and abuse, almost inhuman, exposing them can unleash narcissistic fury, hopefully the victim is lucky enough to escape. These types are insidious, poison, toxic and sadistic. Working to bring in a strict No Contact policy – say NO to the abuse! No relationship ever ends in such a shroud of destruction as one that ends with a narcissist.

The Narcissist/The masks – when you have encountered pure evil – Everything you once understood about people did not apply to this person. During the relationship you tried to be compassionate, easy going and forgiving. You never could have known that the person you ‘loved’ was actively using these things against you. It just doesn’t make any sense. And so, you spent your time projecting a normal human conscience onto them, trying to explain away their inexplicable behaviour. But once you discover narcissism, sociopathy or psychopathy everything starts to change. You begin to feel disgusted - horrified that you let this darkness into your life. Everything clicks and falls into place. All of the ‘accidental’ or ‘insensitive’ behaviour finally makes sense. You try to explain this to friends or family members, but no one really seems to ‘get it’. This is why validation matters! When you come together with others who have experienced the same thing as you, you discover you are not crazy. You are not alone in this inhuman experience. The smarter you become about narcissistic abuse the crazier the narcissist will say ‘you’ are….

“How many narcissists does it take to screw in a light bulb”? – Ask them they know everything, and chances are they’ll lie to you about the answer, make you feel guilty about it and then, make everyone hate you for asking. – Keep Shining. Keep Smiling.

Life Coaching - Do you struggle with making your dreams a Reality? Coaching is unlocking a person’s potential to maximise their own performance. I offer personal life coaching, with over 15 years’ experience in the field of personal growth and self-awareness/development; as a qualified, registered and professional Counsellor / Psychotherapist. Conquering your Fear & Anxiety. SUCCESS - See your goal. Understand the obstacle. Create a positive mental picture. Clear your mind of self-doubt. Embrace the challenge. Stay on track. Show the world you can do it. To believe change is possible. To become more confident, assertive, empowered and create the life of your dreams. Step into your future! With confidence, fulfilment, happiness and freedom; permission to be You. Fear & struggle = Stuck, vs Life coaching = life changing. Fulfilling and rewarding in every area – personal, career, relationships, friends, family & home, health, motivation, work & home life balance, personal growth, retirement, fun. Creating a better quality of life!

Helping to achieve your aspirations and life goals, a more directive way of working. Changing your mindset and discover what is holding you back. A dream becomes a Goal, becomes a Plan, becomes Action, becomes Reality. Working with various theories and techniques, meaning, my work is underpinned by theoretical principles and qualifications – Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Humanistic, Psychoanalytic, Gestalt, Solution-focused Therapy, Kolb Learning, Kubler Ross Transitional Curve, Maslow, Wheel of life, TA, Johari Window, Mindfulness, EFT, GROW – Goal Reality Options Will; to name a few. Enabling me to work with each person individually to match the type of coaching to their particular needs, at a high level. A tailor-made package. “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone”.

By choosing me you can be assured of a professional and ethical service. As a member of the BACP professional body, I work to a code of ethics and am bound by its ethical framework for good practice and integrity. Ensuring the work is safe and confidential. Over the last few years one of the changes seen, is that, there now is a strong body of research showing the effects and benefits brought about by a ‘coaching process’; the action of brainstorming and understanding your goals, gain clarity, provide tools that facilitate awareness and a sense of direction. My style as a coach is in helping people remove any personal limitations in order to reach your true potential. To help recognise and break any unwanted negative cycles of behaviour and empower you to choose how you want to live. How to live courageously, take charge and make your dream life a Reality.

“The middle is messy, but it’s also where the Magic happens”. Brene Brown, Rising Strong.

This gives some idea of what I offer, however, not an extensive list, my areas of counselling & psychotherapy are very wide and varied with a wide range of issues and difficulties. Life is a journey which can be complex and challenging.
