Andrea Harber-Kelly MUKCP

It can be hard to reach a decision about who to see when faced with so many adverts. I would invite you to phone or e-mail for an initial session with me so you can decide whether I am the right therapist for you.
I am a qualified counsellor (UKCP) with 20 years experience in both long term work and brief therapy. I work privately and for the NHS. I offer individual and couple counselling in East and West London. I offer effective time-limited therapy and longer term work where required.
My experience is wide-ranging. My work has included treating various types of depression, bereavement, low self-esteem, phobias, stress, anxiety and eating disorders. I work with and address these issues in both individual and couples sessions. I also have experience of working with anger management and OCD and have done some research in these areas. Antenatal/postnatal counselling and working to support families in their experience of parenting is an additional service I offer, in conjunction with my current work with the NCT.
I have seen people's initial difficulties improve and resolve during counselling. Counselling is a way to regain clarity and a sense of balance and fulfilment. Follow -up appointments show how effective sessions have been for people who have seen me.
I offer both short and longer term therapy for individuals and couples. I also offer telephone sessions where necessary. All enquiries welcome by telephone or e-mail.
I am committed to my own ongoing professional and personal development, through continuing study, therapeutic work and supervision.
My work is fully supervised and insured and I adhere to the UKCP's ethical code.
Training, qualifications & experience
In Private Practice since 2000. Working with individuals and couples recommended to me from previous clients, GPs, Midwives and other therapists/supervisors.
1997 -2001 - Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy/UKCP accreditation. Experience while training included work with Newham Social Services with clients from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and for The Caravan in St James, Piccadilly, a charity drop-in service working with homeless people, those with chronic mental health difficulties, schizophrenia and addictions.
2000 - 2004: CBT work in GP surgeries (PCT) Short-term work in GP surgeries in East London. CBT is designed to measure the outcome of the therapy. In my time working there my patients' outcomes from therapy were excellent and almost all of my patients valued their sessions, shown by excellent patient attendance figures.
2002 - 2004: Bereavement Counselling Practice - I have worked with a wide variety of bereavement issues, including loss of partners, parents, children, people whose friends or relatives have died in accidents or as a result of suicide, women suffering miscarriage or termination of pregnancy and professionals who encounter death in their work (CF. my article "Bereavement and Loss" link below).
2003 - 2005: CPD Cert in Dream analysis - exploration and study of dreams, both experiential and theoretical experience gained. This has been of significant value in my counselling practise, many of the people I see find dreams a very useful resource in exploring and understanding themselves further.
2008 - 2009: CPD Psychodynamic Training - This involved studying and lecturing on the origins of modern-day psychotherapy and in-depth discussions of Freud's work and attachment theory and its implications for practise.
2009 - 2010: Diploma in Supervision - I am a qualified Supervisor working with groups and individuals, currently practising privately as a supervisor as well as in the NHS.
2008 - 2013: CPD - Post-Natal Support Training - focussing on the needs and experiences of parents and infants during pregnancy and through the early years of parenting and accompanying aspects of infant/toddler care (See "Post-Natal Depression" article below).
2014 - 2017: Couples CPD from Relate-trained Supervisor, Imago therapy CPD.
