Profile

I am a qualified and experienced therapist, offering long and short-term individual Gestalt therapy in the heart of Edinburgh. Gestalt is a wonderfully relational, embodied and creative approach to therapy. I have been working as a therapist since 2001, first qualifying back in 2003 with a Diploma in Humanistic Counselling. I provide a safe, affordable and confidential space for you to explore.

You may be seeking a therapist right now because things in your life are incredibly tough-going and you feel you can't cope. Or perhaps there's something that you know you want to change but are uncertain how to. I believe that we all carry the solutions to really living our life to the full. Often we get confused along the way and may need some help. In therapy, we will work together to find a way to uncover your own unique path.

We will explore how you have become stuck in certain areas of your life. Living fully from moment to moment depends on being able to adapt to our constantly changing environmental conditions - the situations and the people we encounter. When we get stuck, it's usually because, for good and creative reasons in the past, we've become fixed or stereotyped in the ways we relate to parts of our life now.

Our work together will be to help develop your awareness - about your thoughts, feelings, attitudes, behaviours, actions in many different situations. Along the way, you will find new ways to self-support; experiment with doing things differently; gain greater self-acceptance; and become more engaged in choosing the life you really want.

Training, Qualifications & Experience

Three-year Postgraduate Diploma in Gestalt Therapy (2008-11), working towards UKCP accreditation.
Two-year Postgraduate Diploma in Humanistic Counselling, qualifying 2003
One-year Certificate in Person-Centred Counselling
Two years of Gestalt Therapy training at Manchester Gestalt Centre
MA (Hons) in Psychology from Glasgow University
Childline Helpline Counsellor training with Childline Northwest
Teaching Certificate in ELT from International House, Barcelona

I have worked with clients from many walks of life and have considerable experience of supporting and helping them resolve their issues around many different themes. Our work together has included exploring loss and bereavement, relationship issues, child related issues, abuse, trauma, post-traumatic stress, sexuality and sexual issues, stress, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, low self-confidence, pain and physical problems, work-related issues, career counselling and anger management. However, my first priority is always to the person, to their life and not just focusing on a 'problem'.

Fees

My standard fee for a 60-minute session is either £45 or £50, based on your individual circumstances.

I also hold a number of lower-fee places.  If you are unwaged, on low wages or currently experiencing significant financial difficulty, I am happy to discuss offering therapy, based on what you can currently afford. Please ask me whether I have any low-cost places available and we can then explore this further when we meet.

Further Information

I am a Member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (MBACP).

I am continuing to learn (aren't we all), and recently completed a three-year Diploma in Gestalt Therapy at Edinburgh Gestalt Institute. I am a Trainee Member of the Gestalt Psychotherapy & Training Institute (GPTI).

In my work as a therapist, I am bound by both the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy and the GPTI Code of Ethics.

I am in regular clinical supervision with two UKCP Accredited Gestalt psychotherapists and I maintain professional civil liability insurance cover.

I currently offer therapy from two centres: from my home in Stockbridge and at Edinburgh Gestalt Institute on Lothian Road.
