Lois Hurst Dip. Counselling MBACP (Accred).
I offer confidential counselling and EMDR in Ryde and Newport on the Isle of Wight. My aim is always to create a safe and nurturing space in which you can explore your concerns.
My love of working with people therapeutically goes back over 25 years when I began working as a Rebirther and then as a Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist. Over the years I acquired many skills and 5 years ago I decided it was time to find a way to consolidate them, hence my training and qualification in Integrative Counselling. My Integrative approach to counselling means that I look at things holistically, taking into account body, mind, spirit and the environment we find ourselves in.
Some people come to counselling for short term, solution focused work. This is usually in response to a particular problem such as panic attacks, phobias or anxiety about a work or relationship issue. Others come to counselling for longer term work to explore deeper issues such as childhood abuse, eating disorders, long standing anxiety or depression. Some people are not sure what they need. They may have a feeling that all is not well in their world and that life is somehow passing them by. An initial assessment appointment can usually help to clarify what is needed. I enjoy both short term and long term work.
Whether, short term or more in depth, I see counselling as a process whereby you can be gently supported whilst you explore and work through issues that are interfering with the quality of your life. Counselling is a quiet space in which to stand back from the stresses of life and from this quieter, more objective place, new perspectives can emerge.
Whilst I am happy to work with a variety of issues, my special interests are binge eating disorder bulimia, anxiety, depression, and working with survivors of childhood abuse. I also specialise in bereavement counselling.
