Profile
Specialising in working with children and their families, I provide a therapeutic counselling service where children can explore anxieties or problems in a safe, confidential setting. Uncovering what is really worrying your child can sometimes be difficult. You may notice changes in their behaviour, strong emotions may be acted out or your child may become withdrawn. Having some help at the right time can make all the difference. Counselling can help children to identify and express thoughts and feelings that are difficult to deal with or may have become bottled up.
Whilst some children will talk about their problems others, especially young children, may find it difficult to put feelings into words. Some will express themselves through painting, drawing, modelling or sand tray work and some will use storytelling with puppets and play materials. As a counsellor specifically trained and specialising in working with children, parents and families, I can support your child to find the most helpful medium for exploring their issues.
Parents can feel confused or anxious when their child acts out their emotions and this can lead to difficulties with relationships within families. Some parents also find it helpful to have a safe, confidential, non-judgmental space in which to think about what is happening for them, their child and the family. Developing understanding and exploring alternative ways of responding can help to bring about positive changes for the whole family.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling with Children and Adolescents.

I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor / Psychotherapist and registered with the UKRCP.
I have established counselling provision in a primary school where I supervise trainees on placement from Birkbeck University and provide consultancy to an Inclusion Manager in another local primary school, occasionally working with children who are Looked After or who have challenging Behavioural and Emotional Needs. I also work for a charity providing counselling to children from families where parents are going through divorce or separation or have experienced a bereavement.
