About me

I offer ongoing, weekly therapy either online or in person (Lancaster). I also offer Single Session Therapy, which is a one-off session to focus in on one particular issue. If you are interested in this option, I can explain more if you email for more information.

I have 19 years of experience in counselling/psychotherapy for a wide range of issues, and am both Registered and Accredited with BACP. I work in Lancaster (face to face), and online.

I have been a group, couples and individual therapist, as well as a teacher of counselling. I have been Lead Therapist and Manager on inpatient psychiatric wards and outpatient services at a mental health hospital. Before being a counsellor I was a school teacher and musician. This means that I have experience of many issues that life can throw up. If you look at the list below, it will show you some of the subjects that I am used to working with. Mostly I have worked with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma and loss in various forms.

If you are thinking of having counselling, it might be because of a temporary crisis or a long standing issue. Some people come if they feel dissatisfied but are not quite sure what the problem is. You might be very confused about why you are feeling distressed or unhappy; in this case I would work with you to try and pinpoint what the problem is. It is my job to listen below the surface and help you to see where you might be able to make changes in order to have more peace of mind. I will work with you, in a confidential way, to help you see how you can shift things so that you feel differently to how you feel now.

I work with individuals (over 18) .

I always offer a free initial consultation (on Zoom), in order to talk through what your needs might be and whether counselling may help your situation. (If you are coming for single-session therapy there is a questionnaire instead of an initial call.) There is no obligation to continue after this session, as it is important that you feel comfortable with the counsellor you choose to work with. In this initial session you can get a feel for whether you can imagine working with me, and you can get a flavour of the way I work. If I believe you would be better helped by a different approach I will tell you this.

Sessions are £50. Each session lasts one hour.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
