Profile
I'm an accredited counsellor with over 12 years experience, and offer individual face-to-face counselling in quiet surroundings in the heart of Durham City.
My counselling style is humanistic and person-centred, which reflects my belief that each person is unique and that given the right conditions we each have the potential to grow and go forward in our own way. I believe the best way to help you do this is by offering a relationship in which you feel deeply heard, valued and understood, so you are then able to tap into your own strengths and resources.
Mostly this involves the two of us talking, but it can include other types of self-expression, depending on your needs at the time and whether or not you wish to work in this way. I have a particular interest in Focusing, which helps people deepen their inner awareness by tuning into their bodily felt sense of an issue or situation (if you wish more information www.focusing.org.uk gives a helpful overview).
I think ethical practice is essential to all good counselling, and work hard to create an environment where people feel safe enough to be able to experience and express their deepest truths. My clients tell me they particularly value my calm presence and active non-judgemental listening.
