Profile

I started off my career in the biological sciences, and eventually became interested in counselling after having had some marital therapy. I have now been in the 'industry' for around 20 years! I work privately, and in agencies, as well as supervising other counsellors. I have spent about 8 years as a counselling trainer.

I am familiar with both short-term and longer term work.

My practice: - I work integratively, that is using ideas from different theoretical perspectives, mostly those from person-centred and psychodynamic orientations. This means I work very much with the client and their experience, at times looking into the past to try to understand what is happening today. I find this can be helpful in moving things on.

Where: - The rooms I use for most of my work are quiet and private, with free parking, these are in South Cerney, near Cirencester, not far from Tetbury, Malmesbury and Swindon, and accessible from Cheltenham too. I also work in Swindon on one day a week. I can occasionally get rooms in Cirencester.

Training, Qualifications & Experience

I started training at a youth counselling service, which used a person-centred model, then moved to a 3 year psychodynamic training. I qualified in 1991, and have thus been a qualified counsellor for 20 years.

I have been a part-time lecturer for 8 years, including training other counsellors, and am a counselling supervisor. I work privately and within agency settings.
I have ticked various boxes as areas of interest and expertise, but this is by no means exhaustive, and have some familiarity with many of the areas not ticked, so do ask if you have any queries.
