Further Information
Below are some of the approaches I use as an integrative counsellor.........
Person Centred Counselling offers a non-judgemental therapeutic relationship between client and counsellor, in which the client can explore what they need and want, and how they can achieve their goals.
Art Therapy is a non-verbal way of revealing deeper emotions that may not otherwise be clearly expressed. The client is encouraged to express themselves freely through art, allowing a link between the subconscious and the product of the art therapy. The resulting images can help to bring to light any suppressed emotions or conflicts. Reflecting on the images can help to understand and deal with the issues that arise. Art Therapy is also used as a tool for personal growth and greater self-understanding.
Psychodynamic Counselling works by bringing unconscious processes and emotions into consciousness; there is an emphasis on the influence of the past and on recurring patterns of behaviours and relationships.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) works by examining the ways that thoughts, feelings and behaviours can affect each other, and how different aspects of these can be changed to solve specific problems.
In Play Therapy clients of all ages can enter into a dynamic relationship with the therapist that enables them to express, explore and make sense of their difficult and painful experiences through boundaried play. Rather than having to explain what is troubling them, as adult therapy usually expects, a client uses play to communicate their personal perceptions without feeling interrogated or threatened.
Frequently asked questions?
What does Integrative mean?
"Individuals think, feel and react in different ways and by integrating different theories; it can bring about change in their lives. An integrative Counsellor works holistically with each client to produce a unique therapy adapted to suit what that individual client needs."
What is Short Term Counselling?.
"Through talking and sharing a client is helped to explore thoughts, possibly difficult or painful feelings and related behaviours and thereby reach a clearer self understanding. During this exploration the client is helped to find and use their inner resources and strengths, so that they can cope more effectively with life by making appropriate decisions and taking relevant action".
What is Open-ended Counselling?
"Longer term or open-ended counselling tends to deal with more deep-seated personal issues which may bring about profound changes and healing of old hurts. In the process of therapy the client is encouraged to look closely at their past, their childhood and relationships with their parents and other important people. This exploration helps increase their awareness and understanding of current patterns and negative habits that may have become unconscious daily habits, and therefore promotes potential change and self growth."
Do you have supervision?
"I have a adult supervision on a fortnightly basis. I also have specialist adolescent supervision once a month.
Both my Supervisors are MBACP Accredited counsellors and Supervisors (BAPS Reg) and have a wide range of experience spanning over 30 years between them."
What about confidentiality?
'The nature of the counselling sessions is strictly confidential between the Counsellor and the client as per BACP code of ethics.'
I am not happy leaving a message on the answer phone?
"If you do not want to leave a message on the phone, then you can send an email with your name and contact details with the best time to contact you and I will call you as soon as get it".
How many sessions will I need?
"This is a personal choice made between the client and counsellor at the beginning. Some clients prefer to have open ended counselling with no fixed end and other clients will state that they would like a set number"
