About me

I am an experienced and fully accredited psychotherapist working with a wide range of issues which include anxiety and depression, low self-esteem, relationship or work difficulties, bullying, anger management, bereavement and parenting skills.   I have been working with individuals since 2003 and my style is supportive and conversational, with a view to establishing a good relationship with the client.

Taking the step to come to therapy for the first time can seem daunting, but I strive to ensure that my clients feel at ease and that they are well supported in whatever they bring.  Really, we are just having an exploratory conversation in which I help you to find out more about yourself, why you think and behave as you do, and what options are available to you in order to move forward.  Alternatively, you may be going through a particularly difficult time for which you need some support while you move through it.  The loss of a loved one or the end of the a relationship can be a particularly emotional time, for example, and so I would help my client in their processing of the grief and help them to accept their loss so that they can move on.  Or maybe you are in stuck in an unhappy relationship, in which case we may spend time looking at the dynamics of the relationship and how we may affect a change in order to achieve a satisfying outcome.

I offer both short and long-term therapy.  Short-term therapy tends to be more goal-focused and specific to a particular issue, whereas long-term therapy is usually more open-ended and involves looking more deeply at the client’s history, relationships and patterns of thought and behaviour.

If you would like to make an initial appointment to discuss your issues and to see whether we get along, please call or email me on the details given above.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am accredited by the BACP and was registered with the UKCP for many years.  I have recently dropped my registration with the latter as I don't need to belong to two organisations and incur the expense of that. I abide by the code of conduct and ethics of both these organisations; confidentiality, working without prejudice or discrimination and putting the clients’ interests first are at the heart of these.  I have regular supervision and I my practice is fully insured.

I am a graduate of the Spectrum (UKCP accredited) training qualification and I hold a psychology degree (BA Hons) from the University of Nottingham.   As well as my experience of working privately, I have worked with the counselling organisations The Place to Be and Richmond MIND.  I have 27 years experience as a parent and I bring this knowledge to my practice.

Before training and practising as a psychotherapist I spent many years in marketing and then as a marketing and systems analyst in the city.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
