Profile
In life there are times when we all need some extra support, a place where we can be ourselves, without judgement, without advice, to explore and understand whats going on around and about us. Counselling offers the opportunity to stop, re-evaluate, explore, experience and reconcile lifes events. Life can be exciting, intriguing, scary and sad, difficult to understand and tough often all at once! My aim is to provide a safe welcoming space where together we can begin to unravel lifes events, twists and turns. You may be surprised to find laughter as well as tears make up counselling sessions.
I qualified as a Counsellor in 2002 and have gained in experience and humility every day since this time. The reason I sought both personal counselling and ultimately counselling training was to recover from several life changing events. I found the experiences to be empowering and I hope I can enable others to feel empowered too.
A typical counselling session last for up to 60 minutes and can be engaged with over a period of weeks or months. We always work at your pace. Since qualifying I have continued to gain in experience I qualified as a Bereavement Counsellor working with children and adults. I have worked in schools and colleges as well as with a many adult clients with diverse issues.
I work in a client centred way which means you the client is at the centre of any work undertaken we can engage in traditional talking therapies as well as creative ways of being paint, clay, objects to ensure that your counselling experience is just right for you.
I work from a counselling room in the centre of Darlington which is easily accessible and there is a car park opposite. I carry insurance and am an accredited member of the BACP which ensures my practice is ethical and professional at all times. I also strive to update my practice with training courses, workshops. I hold an M.A. in Counselling from York University.
Please email or telephone me if you would like an informal conversation about counselling and what you may expect from your counselling sessions. That first step is usually the hardest to take.
