About me

One to one sessions in person and online. My approach is warm, compassionate and robust. Evening and daytime appointments. Email: rebeccaburtoncounselling@gmail.com Tel: 07949 029648.

Acceptance is so important. We live in a culture focussed on striving to get things right and meeting standards and deadlines. Other needs like those for connection, support and listening are often left out; leading us vulnerable to distress, anxiety and depression. We need an anitidote, and I provide this in the counselling sessions I offer.

I offer a warm and receptive presence and will meet you where you are, beyond wrong and right. In this place maybe you already know the answers to your questions and know the action you need to take. I will help you to access this deeper knowing and, when you are ready, to translate it into action in your everyday life.

You can expect to be taken seriously, to be appreciated just as you are, but also to be challenged as I help you become aware of areas in yourself you might struggle to accept. Above all I provide a space in which you can just be who you are in the moment, a time when you don't have to try but can relax into yourself. From this place real change happens.

I am particularly skilled in working with people who:

Are anxious, feel shaky, spaced out or numb,
Have lost interest in things that used to give their life meaning,
Are particularly sensitive to the environment (noise, criticism, food, 'busyness'),
Are interested in restoring a connection to the natural world,
Enjoy using their imagination (whether this is expressed through a practice like gardening, childrearing, or art, or whether this is simply wished for).

I commonly work with:
relationship issues
anxiety
generalised anxiety
depression
people going through divorce or separation
instances where there has been an affair or a betrayal
family issues
panic disorder

If you feel you like the sound of what I offer the best thing to do is to book an initial session with me. This will be a chance for us to meet each other and discover whether working together will meet your needs.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
