Profile
Counselling Guildford is a private counselling practice with two qualified and experienced counsellors offering confidential one to one counselling in a quiet location in central Guildford (GU1), Surrey, UK.
My approach to counselling is integrative which means that I am informed by the humanistic, psychodynamic and transpersonal schools of thought. As I use all three of these philosophies in my work I am therefore known as an integrative counsellor.
However it is perhaps more important to explain in more general terms the way in which I work. In essence my aim is to offer you a safe, supportive and confidential space where together we can explore the issues or difficulties that you are experiencing. In today's very busy world it can be hard to find someone to talk to who is able to truly listen in an impartial and non-judgemental way.
I can offer you the space and time to be listened to and in addition I will sometimes offer you feedback on what I observe and any patterns of behaviour or thought processes that might be hindering you. This feedback can be helpful and may give you some insights about yourself and how sometimes experiences from your past may be affecting you today. Together we will look at ways to facilitate change and develop your self-awareness and inner resources. Counselling can also help if you are feeling stuck and seeking more meaning and direction in your life.
I believe in a holistic approach and that counselling can have a beneficial effect on the body's physical health as well as helping cognitively and emotionally.
My post-graduate training includes a one-year course on attachment and I have a particular interest in how our attachment styles, which are formed in childhood, can influence our "choices", both conscious and unconscious, in our adult relationships.
The counselling I offer can be long or shorter term depending on your needs. As well as a background in psychology I am also a Certified Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). I am a member of the BACP and adhere to its Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
