About me

Hello and thank you for visiting my profile.

We all have times in our lives when we have difficulty coping. Maybe things feel out of control or you have reached a point where you want things to change or feel things need to change.  Maybe a life event has left you confused, sad or depressed.

Counselling allows you the space and time to explore your thoughts and feelings about your situation. I aim to provide a 'therapeutic relationship' which gives you a confidential place to talk about whatever it is you need to share and gives you time to explore your thoughts and feelings. A space where you will not feel judged, but where you feel safe and supported.

My aim being to allow you to develop a greater understanding of you. I am not there to give advice, but to support your exploration so that you are able to come to your own answers about your situation.

Sometimes having a confidential space to do this with someone who is independent of your life is all you need, but sometimes counselling can also help by exploring unhelpful patterns of behaviour which may be causing you difficulty, patterns which have grown from your life experience and you find yourself repeating.

Whatever your reason for thinking about counselling, it can help you gain a greater understanding of you and your situation, and help you to think about solutions and possible ways forward.

I am a Registered BACP Senior Accredited Therapist, you will find my name on the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.  I gained my initial Accreditation as Counsellor/Psychotherapist in 2007 and my Senior Accreditation in 2011.

A BACP Accredited Counsellor is not the same as a BACP Registered Counsellor. Accreditation is a BACP process which is undergone once a therapist is qualified and experienced. To gain Senior Accreditation a further accreditation process is undertaken.

I am qualified to masters degree level (level 7) and have been in private practice since 2005.

I am also a BACP Senior Accredited Practitioner in Supervision, offering clinical supervision to other counsellors, trainee and newly qualified, as well as experienced therapists.

I have experience working in general practice, adoption support, palliative care and life threatening illness support. This experience includes the setting up of a specific service to work with children and young people and managing a BACP Accredited Counselling Service.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
