About me

Its very difficult when life has got too difficult and there is that feeling of being alone and with no one who understands. I  know very well what that feels like and I am here to offer you that possibility of being truly understood and to find ways to cope with the adversities that you face.

I have a warm style and a wealth of in depth personal and professional life experience to help you through the worst times and genuinely find a way of coming out the other end ready to lead a fuller and more enriched life   

I work online. What I have to offer is unique expertise in attachment and psychotherapy and many years of experience in trauma and complex forms of trauma. I have had a very rigorous training and many years of experience in a variety of settings .  I have a thorough grounding in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and in contemporary thinking and developments in ways of working with people . A depth and breadth of knowledge and experience, who fully acknowledges a persons culture , history and social context. 

I am a psychotherapist who focuses on the way childhood and trauma effects emotional development and adult personality, including historical transmission from previous generations, as well as how ongoing social relationships and circumstances effects our lives. 

I have worked in the NHS, Social Services,  and in private practise for many years. I have worked in child , adolescent and adult psychiatric and social services settings. I worked for many years with the Helen Bamber Foundation for those who have been traumatised by abuse and torture, as a staff psychotherapist at the Womens therapy centre and with domestic violence. As noted I have worked as a psychotherapist also with couples and  families  now specialising in individual adult psychotherapy in private practice 

In my practice I work with all kinds of emotional issues attachment disorder, sexual abuse, gender and sexuality areas, eating disorders, psychosomatic conditions, post-traumatic stress, domestic violence, relationship difficulties, low self esteem, depression, grief,compulsions, disability and illness.

I also have special interest in  ear disorders .

I have a friendly and open attitude. In therapy we will focus on behaviour that we repeat that does not help us and how to understand and overcome negative patterns of feeling and acting so that life can be changed and genuinely improved.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have over twenty five years of experience, trained with the British Association of Psychotherapists(BAP) now (BPF) and am registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC). I specialised in child development and attachment which are crucial in helping understand adult experiences, I did two years at the Tavistock Clinic in infant-observation and childhood studies, started off working in the NHS and Social Services working psychodynamically with children and adolescents, then specialised with the BAP to work with adults. As noted I have worked as a staff psychotherapist for years at the Womens Therapy Centre which has given me specialist experience in Women's issues and as a psychotherapist at the Helen Bamber Foundation with people who have suffered trauma and experience Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I also have an interest working with disability and illness

I have a First Class Degree in Sociology, a PhD in Psychoanalysis which focused on psychosomatic conditions and body image difficulties.

I have also worked  as a Senior Lecturer in Counselling within the Psychosocial school at the University of East London. I also have worked and still work at the Tavistock clinic . I have a academic, research as well as clinical background and expertise . I have  published books and journal papers on attachment theory /practice and bodily issues, sexual abuse, psychosomatic dysfunction and body image, post traumatic disorder and working with body symptoms in psychotherapy. Including illness and disability

British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC)

The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.

BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
