Everyone experiences emotional difficulties at times in their life. People make use of counselling sessions to explore and make better sense of the things that concern them. I work with respect for each individual's beliefs and values, aiming to offer the greatest opportunity for growth and change.
I am a Humanistic therapist and take a Solution Focussed approach to therapy. Solution Focussed Therapy, as its name suggests, focuses on solutions and is goal orientated, rather than problem focussed as many other therapies are. The primary benefit of solution focussed counselling is that it helps clients to mobilise and develop their own resources to solve their own problems. This can result in a reduction in the symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression and interpersonal relationships can improve. Another benefit of solution focussed counselling is that the client and counsellor identify clear goals at the start. As a result of this the client and counsellor will both know what success looks like and therefore can easily identify when counselling is no longer required. The Solution Focussed approach can be less expensive than other forms of therapy that traditionally require more sessions over a longer period of time. I use solution focussed therapy in conjunction with other forms of therapy such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. The Humanistic ethos underpins my counselling philosophy.
There are several assumptions that provide the framework of solution focussed counselling:
All people have the strengths and inner resources to solve life's challenges.
"Change is one of life's constants". Not only is change possible, it is always happening.
The Client is the expert in their life.
We do not need to know what caused a problem to be able to solve it.
Emphasis is on what is possible and changeable.
If it's not working, do something different.

The first session is for getting to know each other and making sure you're comfortable and happy to continue. I will outline what to expect from your therapy and explain the ethical framework that I work within and we'll begin to explore what has brought you to counselling.
