--- A "problem" is an opportunity for change---What we believe we can achieve --- We can make new choices until we find what does work --- (Sue Knight)
Welcome to my profile.
Whether you are an individual or couple, I invite you to look at what I can offer you and warmly invite you to call me on 07747 742258 or send me an email if you believe I may be able to help you. Please see details of my fees and availability at the end of this profile.
I qualified as an integrative humanistic Counsellor with an Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Counselling in 2001 I am Accredited with the BACP and registered with the UKRCP. I also hold a certificate in Psychosynthesis Transpersonal Supervision and a certificate in Pastoral Supervision with APSE. I have completed many hours of further training in different models of therapeutic work which has enhanced my knowledge and experience. I have outlined some of my training below.
I provide a warm, confidential and calming atmosphere in which you can share your problems. You do not have to commit yourself to a set number of weeks and it is entirely up to you how much counselling you think you might need.
It takes a lot of courage to step into the therapy room and it is natural to feel nervous about making the initial contact. I can assure you that most people find that within a few minutes of entering my therapy room, they feel less anxious and are pleased they have taken that step. I will help you to feel secure and relaxed.
I have experienced therapy personally and I know how anxious I was on attending my first appointment as I didn’t know what to expect. I soon settled in and believe it was the best thing I have ever done as it helped me change some difficult aspects of my relationship with myself and enhanced my relationships with others.
Counselling is often described as 'talking therapy' but If you find if hard to talk, then I can offer you other ways to work through your issues such as using imagery, visualisation, creative tools or relaxation techniques. All these can be extremely effective.
THE COUNSELLING I OFFER CAN HELP YOU IN THE FOLLOWING WAYS:
To gain a clearer perspective on how to understand and manage your problems in a new way and to enable you to make any necessary changes.
To learn how to use simple therapeutic tools and strategies that can help your manage your thoughts and feelings more effectively.
To grow in confidence and achieve your goals.
In a safe and confidential setting I can help you to work through any problem that may be weighing you down in order to move towards, or to bring about positive change.
I can help you explore with your partner any issues that may be causing you difficulty within your relationship. In a safe, confidential and non-judgemental setting we can look at how you communicate your thoughts and feelings to each other and if you choose, I can teach you effective communication styles that may help you. Couples have told me that through the counselling they received, they have been enabled to communicate more effectively with their partner after a few sessions which has helped them to work through their issues positively.
Adoption Focussed Counselling
I am a Registered Adoption Focussed Counsellor and undertake adoption support work through Barnardos where I have received specialist OFSTED approved training in Attachment Focussed Therapy. I am qualified to help you with any issues in relation to this, whether you are a birth mother or father, adoptee, adopter or close family member needing support.
I run a Six-Session Psycho-educational (Adult Only) course which helps participants to discover what lies behind their disordered eating habits and gives new insight and understanding on how they can learn new and effective ways to manage their comfort eating by establishing a healthy relationship with themselves.
The course requires participants to complete weekly homework in the workbook provided between sessions.
The course is appropriate for adults - whether individuals, couples or groups
As a Licensed “Understanding Your Eating” Practitioner, trained by Professor Julia Buckroyd, Emeritus of the University of Hertfordshire,
The cost is £315 per person
N.B This course is not suitable for anyone suffering with anorexia or bulimia.
I am also an NLP Practitioner and have a diploma in Neuro Linguistic Programming and am able to offer you additional tools and techniques that can help you tap into your true potential and achieve positive outcomes in any area of your life. I also hold a certificate in Coaching.
What I love most about engaging in this work is that I have witnessed courageous people making positive changes and I have seen healing taking place emotionally, physically and spiritually.
I feel privileged to have built up an established and flourishing private Counselling and Supervision Practice in Green Street Green.
As well as running my private practise, my counselling career has enabled me to gain a deep and rich understanding in addictions as I worked in rehab for four years leading a 12 Step Intensive Therapy Programme of recovery.
I have worked with a leading weight management company for four years as a weight loss consultant working with over 150 members each week.
I spent the last four years working as Senior Counsellor at Burrswood Hospital where I worked with patients who had been diagnosed with CFS/ME, Motor Neurone Disease, Multiple Sclerosis as well as other diagnoses such as cancer and those who were needing palliative care. I also had a caseload of outpatient clients.
I have also worked at the Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre supervising helpline volunteers.
Presently I supervise individual counsellors privately. As well as this, I also supervise groups of trainee counsellors within a local drug and alcohol support agency and a group of supervisors at Cruse. I also run a Reflective Practice Supervision group with Diocesan clergy too.
Please see further information regarding the support that I offer in the 'Supervision' section of this directory. If you are a practitioner or counselling student, I can provide you with effective and creative supervision to enhance your work.
