--- A "problem" is an opportunity for change---What we believe we can achieve --- We can make new choices until we find what does work --- (Sue Knight)
Welcome to my profile.
I believe that unless we explore and work through the personal issues that can overwhelm us in our daily lives, it is possible to restrict ourselves from having true freedom and peace and we can become weighed down which can be a detriment to our health. What I love most about this work is that I have witnessed courageous people making positive changes and I have seen healing taking place emotionally, physically and spiritually.
I therefore warmly invite you to consider if I could be the right counsellor for you. Once you have decided, please don't hesitate to email or call me on 07747 742258 where we will have a brief conversation with a view to setting up our first session together. I can offer you a welcoming, confidential and calming atmosphere in which to share your problems. You do not have to commit yourself to a set number of weeks and it is entirely up to you how much counselling you think you might need. Counselling is often described as 'talking therapy' but If you find if hard to talk, then I can offer you other ways to work through your issues such as using imagery, visualisation, creative tools or relaxation techniques. All these can be extremely effective.
I am an experienced counsellor with many years of diverse experience in working with individuals, couples and groups. I feel privileged to have built up an established and flourishing private Counselling and Supervision Practice in Green Street Green.
I qualified as an integrative counsellor with an Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Counselling in 2001 I am Accredited with the BACP and registered with the UKRCP. I also hold a certificate in Psychosynthesis Transpersonal Supervision and a certificate in Pastoral Supervision with APSE. I have completed many hours of further training in different models of therapeutic work which has enhanced my knowledge and experience.
It takes a lot of courage to step into the therapy room and it is natural to feel nervous about making the initial contact. I can assure you that most people find that within a few minutes of entering my therapy room, they feel less anxious and are pleased they have taken that step. I will help you to feel secure and relaxed. I've experienced therapy personally and I know how anxious I was initiating my first session. I soon settled in and believe it was the best thing I've ever done for myself. It helped me change some difficult aspects of my relationship with myself and enhanced my relationships with others positively from there.
THE COUNSELLING I OFFER CAN HELP YOU IN THE FOLLOWING WAYS:
To gain a clearer perspective on how to understand and manage your problems in a new way and to enable you to make any necessary changes.
To learn how to use simple therapeutic tools and strategies that can help your manage your thoughts and feelings more effectively.
To grow in confidence and achieve your goals.
My counselling career has enabled me to gain a deep and rich understanding in addictions as I worked in rehab for four years leading a 12 Step Intensive Therapy Programme of recovery.
I have worked with a leading weight management company for four years as a weight loss consultant working with over 150 members each week.
I have also worked with The Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre for three years supervising their volunteers.
Presently I supervise counsellors in two agencies together with individuals who attend privately. I also run Reflective Practice Supervision groups with Diocesan clergy.
I currently support clients in managing many issues such as abortion, adoption, addictions (alcohol, drugs, gambling, food etc.), anxiety, anger management, assertiveness, bereavement and loss, bullying, cultural issues and prejudice, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, narcissistic personality disorder, anti-social disorder, Asperger's syndrome, all types of depression, domestic violence, Christian faith issues, OCD, rape, physical, emotional, ritual and sexual abuse, trauma, post traumatic stress, self-esteem, self-harm and suicide, relationships, family issues, stress management, terminal illness and issues around death and dying, infertility and the effects of IVF. Also disordered eating where I run a six-session individual or group psycho-educational programme in understanding the reasons behind this.
In a safe and confidential setting I can show you how it is possible to effectively work through any problem that may be weighing you down in order to bring about positive change.
I can help you explore with your partner any issues that may be causing you difficulty. In a safe setting I will help you to effectively communicate your thoughts and feelings to each other. Couples have told me that they were enabled to communicate more effectively with their partner just after a few sessions. For some couples it has been a place for them to bring laughter together with tears.
I am a Registered Adoption Focussed Counsellor with Barnados and have received specialist OFSTED approved training. I am qualified to help you with any issues in relation to this, whether you are a birth mother or father, adoptee, adopter or close family member needing support.
I am an NLP Practitioner and have a diploma in Neuro Linguistic Programming and am able to offer you additional tools and techniques that can help you tap into your true potential and achieve positive outcomes in any area of your life.
As a Licensed “Understanding Your Eating” Practitioner, trained by Professor Julia Buckroyd, Emeritus of the University of Hertfordshire, I run a six session course helping people to understand why they experience disordered or comfort eating. See details below:
Whether you are an individual, couple or group, I invite you to book onto this six session psycho-educational course to learn more about your eating patterns and how they became disordered which will help you understand more about yourself and how you were programmed into having this relationship with food. It also offers insight and understanding into the reasons behind why people experience disordered or comfort eating with helpful insight into how to change those patterns.
The course requires participants to complete homework in the workbook provided between sessions.
The cost of the course is £315 per person
Please note: This course is not suitable for people suffering with anorexia or bulimia. For further information please call me on the number above.
Please see further information regarding the support that I offer in the 'Supervision' section of this directory. If you are a practitioner or counselling student, I can provide you with effective and creative supervision to enhance your work.
