The areas covered in South East London include : East Dulwich, Dulwich, Forest Hill, Penge, Sydenham, Crystal Palace and Croydon.
My aim is to be non-judgemental and to be empathetic, respectful and honest in my client work. I have specific knowledge of working with clients with relationship issues and also a special interest in those coping with infertility/fertility issues I am an active member of BICA (British Infertility Counselling Association) and I also work part time for 'The London Women's Clinic' in Harley Street www.londonwomensclinic.com. An important part of my work is to help to build personal self-confidence and raise levels of self-awareness, so that you can either grow to accept and like the person you are, or have the confidence to make positive changes. In couples therapy I aim to enable greater understanding and communications within the relationship.
How I Work
I work with clients by looking at what they bring and tailor the counselling therapy to meet their needs. I incorporate a range of different theories/techniques, but nearly all of my work involves working together through the therapeutic relationship from the theories explored in Petruska Clarksons' model for therapy "The Therapeutic Relationship".
I have key experience of youth work and adult work and such issues as aspergers, eating disorders, cultural and religious issues, anger management, teenage pregnancy/relationship problems, domestic abuse, Fertility/Infertility issues, as well as substance misuse/addictions and codependancy and I have worked as a lead clinician in a Drug and Alcohol service.
Training, qualifications & experience
I qualified with a Higher Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from Guildford College of Higher Education (BACP accredited training) as well as having a degree (BA Hons) in Communications and Cultural Studies from UWE. I am accredited as a counsellor and psychotherapist with the BACP (www.bacp.co.uk) and additionally I offer Counselling Supervision and Life Coaching.
Most recently I have gained an OCN Certificate in Counselling Supervision and I have a number of supervisees (either counsellors or advocates) and greatly enjoy this work.
I am a member of the British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists please see my listing on the BACP website: (www.bacp.co.uk) - Please note that I abide by their ethical framework for good practice.
Over the last 8 years I have gained various training experiences and completed continued professional development workshops from my work at Womens Aid (supporting victims of domestic violence), working within a drug and alcohol team (KCA Horizons service in Wokingham) and also a wide range of experience and training whilst working with young people (13-19 years) for Connexions when employed by the Department of Social Responsiblity in Guildford. Three years agao, I worked within the NHS in Reigate for KCA New Thoughts which provided a service specifically for Anxiety and Depression and meant I was part of an integrated IAPT service, so I had the chance to see for myself how a range of therapies can help someone to move forward and make steps to recovery.
Most recently I have gained specific knowledge of assisting those with infertility issues (Training with BICA) and also physical pain issues and have delivered training on how counselling can help those with endometriosis for the Endometriosis UK group at the Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford and I am linked to www.endometriosis-uk.org support group. Becoming a member of BICA (British Infertility Counselling Association) and participating in their specialised training has led me to become a counsellor for 'The London Women's Clinic' and 'The Bridge Centre' both are private assisted conception clinics in central London. INDIVIDUAL & COUPLES COUNSELLING:
I provide counselling support not just to individuals but also to couples covering a wide range of relationship issues and I have learnt much from my work with couples experiencing infertility and find this a particularly rewarding part of my private practice. Family life can be stressful coping and I am experienced at working with couples with a variety of issues - sometimes a few sessions is all that is needed to get things back in the right direction and improve communications.
Last (but by no means least!) I offer the additional service of Life Coaching - for those who want a more Solution Focussed Approach to Personal change. Personal development is fast becoming a way that individuals can recognise their potential and I work with you to find motivational tools to move forward. With Life Coaching you will find emotionally intelligent ways to tackle barriers or challenges presented to you so that you can get the best out of life :)
