About me

Hi, I'm Tabitha and I'm a qualified counsellor working in New Mills. I am fully insured and supervised, and a registered member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and as such work within their Ethical Framework. I work face to face with clients on a short term or long term basis, and can also offer Skype sessions if requested.

Counselling; like people, varies and there are lots of different approaches or styles of counselling - it is important that you find one that feels right for you, and can help you get the most out of your experience.

I work in an "integrative" way which means that I'm trained in a number of counselling approaches: Person Centred; Psychodynamic and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) as well as Solution Focused, Transactional Analysis, Cogntivie Analytical Therapy (CAT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Methods of Levels (MOL).

I provide a safe, non-judgemental space for you to explore and challenge your difficulties, I will work collaboratively with you, encouraging you to reflect; gaining insight into your strengths and potential, as well as being able to consider and reflect on the things that you may be struggling with.

It is not uncommon to find yourself struggling at different times in your life, and I have experience in working with a wide range of issues such as anxiety, depression, bereavement & loss (including the loss of a pet), relationship and family difficulties as well as self esteem & confidence to name a few.

Deciding to start counselling can feel difficult, and I am happy to provide a free telephone consultation so that you can ask me a bit more about how I work, what you can expect and anything else that you feel unsure of. Please email me to arrange this; I will usually be with clients during the daytime so won't be able to reply until the evening

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a diploma in integrative counselling, from the CPCAB (Counselling & Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body) and have been practicing privately, within the local Primary Care Mental Health Team, and voluntarily for approximately 10 years.

I currently work as the “Clinical Quality and Assurance Lead” in the Primary Care Mental Health Service in & around Manchester and as such am committed to maintaining my professional development and training to make sure that my practice is current and appropriate, as well as supporting others to do the same. In this role I develop training in managing clinical risk, clinical record keeping as well as developing standard operating procedures and auditing service delivery to ensure high standards and quality of care, and I adopt these same high standards in my own private work.

Some recent examples of Continuous Professional Development include trauma focused working, strength based approaches, and training in Cognitive Analytical Therapy (CAT) and in Methods of Levels (MOL), as well as being trained to Level 4 in Children and Adult Safeguarding.

I have been a guest lecturer at Liverpool and Manchester Universities on their IAPT programme, training Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners and Supervisors who go on to deliver local Mental Health Services in GP practices and in the local community.

I have successfully completed training in Clinical (Counselling) supervision as well as in IAPT Supervision and as such am experienced in the provision of clinical and reflective practice supervision to a range of practitioners supporting clients with a range of complex mental health needs.

I have experience in co-facilitating group therapy for challenging depression rooted in a Solution-Focused model, as well as a more process driven group focusing on bereavement and am involved in delivering psycho-educational workshops based on CAT principles.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
