I offer a warm, personal, professional and confidential counselling service for adults and children, individuals and couples. My clients come with a whole range of difficulties, including family/child related issues, relationship issues, sex problems, sexuality, anger management, anxiety (including generalised anxiety disorder), trauma, depression, affairs and betrayals, separation and divorce.
Whatever your situation, counselling can help. Having been a client myself, I'm very aware of how daunting it can be to make that initial call - it took me years to make it. But I also know, first hand, just how worthwhile it can be.
Maybe now is the time for you to do something. If you'd like to arrange an appointment, or just want to talk though your needs, why not call me on 0776 011 6985 or drop me an email? I'd love to see you and can usually offer an appointment within a day or two.
Training, qualifications & experience
I'm a qualified, experienced counsellor offering person-centred counselling and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), with extensive NHS experience. I offer individual and couples counselling for a wide range of issues including abuse, anger management, anxiety, bereavement, bullying, depression (including postnatal depression), low self-esteem / self-confidence, body image, weight management, relationship difficulties, sexual / psychosexual issues, gender and sexuality, loss and trauma.
Having initially done a diploma in Person Centred Therapy, I completed additional training in CBT, psychotherapeutic counselling, child and family therapy, trauma therapy and supervision for counselling and psychotherapy. I undertake regular, ongoing training to enhance and develop my clinical skills.
I'm a registered member of the BACP, and hold a recent CRB/DBS check.
How I work
Everyone is different so there is no one-size-fits-all approach to counselling. I adapt my approach to suit your individual needs. In addition to talking therapies I may offer creative work, sand tray or other expressive approaches to counselling. These can be massively helpful where it's difficult, if not impossible, to express your thoughts and feelings in words, or where you just don't know what's wrong. However we work, you will be in charge. I'll never pressure you to do (or say) anything you're not ready for. We'll work at your pace, in a way that's suitable for you.

My normal session fee is £50 for individuals, £60 for couples counselling, with discounts available to the unwaged and those in financial hardship. I strive to ensure that no one is denied access to counselling on the basis of cost, therefore my rates are negotiable, depending on individual circumstances. I will not ask for details of your financial position, but will take it on trust that you will pay what you can reasonably afford.
Should you decide not to continue beyond the first session, no charge would be made. This gives you an opportunity to explore what counselling may offer you, without any financial commitment. Special rates are available to counselling students attending counselling as part of their qualification.
EAP and similar referrals are charged at £50 per session, £65 for an assessment and report.
I am a registered member of the BACP and operate within their professional guidelines. I'm fully insured and have a recent CRB/DBS (Police) check.
Daytime, evening and limited weekend appointments are available. While I normally see clients in person here in Waterloo I would be willing to consider other options, including home visits and counselling by phone or Skype, according to individual circumstances.
While my premises in Waterloo do not afford disabled access I can arrange to see clients with mobility issues elsewhere, on request. If you need wheelchair access, or have other specific needs, please let me know when booking an appointment.
I realise the sessions I have had have not been a 'magic fix' of my problems, but I had reached a point where I was very concerned about my emotional state. I now feel calmer and more able to carry out day-to-day commitments and feel I will be able to recover.
I feel that talking to David has considerably helped how I judge things and how I feel about myself in general.
Excellent - It has helped me so much with coming to terms with the loss of my partner.
I am grateful to my counsellor, he has took his time and listened to me and been very patient.
I found Dave very easy to talk to. He is calm and measured, a very good listener who does not judge. He makes constructive suggestions in a gentle and encouraging way. Thank you.
Just talking about it in general has helped in many ways, I find it helps a lot to vocalise my problems rather than thinking about them.
This is my first experience of counselling and I have found it to be very positive.
David was a great listener and asked the most thought provoking questions which helped me to put things into perspective, I'm just sorry I didn't meet him sooner.
I have found the service excellent and life-changing. Thank you.
One of the best decisions I've made and fully appreciate the advice from Dave
